They last played a game on 25 August.
Pyke stepped down on 11 September.

Riccuito has said earlier this week that within the week it will be announced. So Im guessing Friday or Monday. They always seem to keep it pretty close to their chest. Walshy and Pykey were both left field that no one saw coming to the last minute before it was announced. But it is sounding like its between Nicks, Kingley, Schofield and Macrae. Three ex port people in that.

Throughout its 30 year history, I don't think Adelaide has ever actually tried the long haul. They drop coaches without reluctance and always look for the quickest ways to maintain finals finishes and put themselves in contention. This is likely for commercial and financial benefit to bring the money in from larger supporter bases, and if you think about how Adelaide was able to get strong attendances and memberships the past two years in spite of their declining form, proves that it seems to be the clubs main priority.
But I encourage the Crows to actually take the slow approach for once and build a good team from the ground up in the next 3-5 years before getting back into the finals, and Slone, Laird, Talia and the Crouches can help guide the newer players throughout this time, but more than anything they NEED a coach that will actually build a good strong personal connection with his players. Don Pyke always had a good practical football brain, but he was never a peoples person, and he never built the relationship with his players required to be a premiership coach.
It has been proven before that you can be a premiership coach without having to build a team yourself, after all, Blight had everything ready for him and all he needed to do was put it to use, which got the club both their twin premierships, but football changed since then. Just because you have all the big names required doesn't mean the hit and quit approach always works either, and Mick Malthouse with Carlton is a good example of how disastrous the quick approach can be.
So I believe that if Adelaide wants the best result, they should put more time into building and developing a side over a long period of time. And it doesn't mean that the long haul always works either, but I think its worth a try at this point. It all starts with the coach so whoever they pick should be with the criteria that it will be someone who is dedicated to the football club and is willing to establish a strong relationship with his players. And most of all, someone who has a PLAN beyond just attempting to meet the clubs expectations.
They just need to take their time, focus on becoming a strong football club instead of prioritizing the wallets of every single breathing kid in SA.

"Look for quick ways to put themselves in contention"..........like when we sacked Robert Shaw and brought in Malcolm Blight, and 2 years later had 2 premierships?

The point is that they didn't undergo a long haul under a singular coach to get there, they kept tossing coaches for missing the finals because they wanted to get the result as soon as they could, they threw different coaches at the wall to see which one would stick and they ended up getting pretty lucky with blight. The list itself though didn't need to be developed via a coach or the club, because after making their AFL debut they were given a s**t load of finances and talent from the league along with the SANFL to give them all the pieces required for a premiership team.
The club didn't need to build its list or programs by scratch, it had everything it needed, the coach was the only finishing touch they needed which they eventually got, but looking at 2019 the club doesn't have too much at the moment beyond its consistent finances and a couple of talented players continuing to give it their all, but the list and the coaching will both need a rebuild which is why I think they should do it by hand this time and go for the long haul.
