Adelaide Giants Discussion Thread

Tonight was special.

Perth got the first 2 runs on the board, which had everyone nervous that we were going to blow another championship series, but cometh the moment, cometh Jordan McArdle, who tied it immediately with a 2 run homer and it was tied at 2 after 2.

Another run to the Giants in the 4th gave us the lead.

The pitchers then put on a show as there were no runs scored in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

The eighth innings has often been the turning point in many Giants games this season, and tonight was no exception. After Quirion got a base hit, cult hero Rixon Wingrove hit a triple as Quirion made it home…just to make it a 4-2 game. Quincy Latimore then got Wingrove home to make it 5-2.

It was then up to Todd van Steensel to pitch it out in the 9th, and after one of the catches of the season by catcher Quirion, who was practically in the Perth dugout to catch it, Van Steensel’s pitching was superb, bar one walk, in the 9th to end the 43 year Claxton Shield drought for South Australia, and the Giants first championship in either iteration of the ABL.
