While the apparent loss of the stadium's built in customisation options is regrettable, teams are more than capable of stamping their club's 'feel' in and around the stadium on their own. Essendon - for example - do a fantastic job of making Etihad feel like a home ground on match days.

So do Collingwood at the G.

and that's why melbourne are the most popular team at the MCG :thumbsu:

No, but it is their home ground. And they have an identity there.

The MCC has a lot of Melbourne FC paintings and trophies etc and they have an office there.

But that does not stop Collingwood making the MCG "theirs". Go to a Collingwood game and there is no denying who's home game it is there. Even against other Vic clubs.

They don't need the MCG to pander to them to make it their home ground, they make it their home ground even with Melbourne FC having a "footprint" there.

Just like both of our clubs will do at Adelaide Oval. Nothing stopping Port claiming ownership of the ground when you play there. Just as we should.

Apologies if this has already come up, but has anyone heard a mention that the proposed footbridge to adelaide oval from the festival centre will cross the torrens, and end on the city side of memorial drive? This will mean pedestrians will have to wait to cross the road at the end of the bridge. If this is true it is an absoute joke, and classic case of south australia doing things in halves.
I really hope we do this all properly because despite living quite close to west lakes, i cannot wait for Adelaide oval to be the home of footy.

I think this is the case.

However on match days Memorial Drive will be closed.

And before you scoff, there are a few roads that are closed around the MCG and Docklands on match days for pedestrian access.

For the rest of the week the demand to cross Memorial Drive would be minimal so a Pedestrian crossing will do the job anyway.

I understand Memorial Drive will be closed on event days (as it is now for larger events).

Ahh all good! Thanks for clearing that up guys.
Hopefully the area around the footbridge at the north terrace end can become more of a cafe / restaurant district. After going to see a show at the festival centre last night, the options for a good feed seemed quite sparce

Hopefully the Riverbank revitalisation project will include this.

If done properly, the whole precinct (Adelaide Oval, Festival Centre, Casino, Riverbank, Convention Centre even the Railway Station) can be livened up and be a thriving multi-use space.

More images have been released on adelaidenow. They show more of the inside of stands. Can't wait for it to be finished :thumbsu:

What's the point of spending all this money on a 52 thousand capacity stadium for it tobe used every second week?

Well wont it be used every second week anyway even if they both play there? Considering there also going to play at AAMI?..
