Footy junkie....i like it! Now before all you Port fans jump down my throat and have me hung, drawn and quartered think about it for a minute. Where exactly are Port Adelaide right now?
They virtually had to go begging for a coach (luckily for them they got the right man)
They are losing players to free agency, they are at rock bottom right now, but will move to the Adelaide oval in 2014 in what could be seen as a resurrection for this football club.
Re- brand and re- name opportunity beckons! Re-establishment awaits!

AFL are required by the broadcasting agreement to have a game in Adelaide every week, it is not going to happen. Worst case scenario is that power is going to be re-branded into a generic brand product and even that is going to be horrific when you are talking about a club with a lot of culture and history.

Don't think it will sit too well with the Adelaide Crows though, if a name change maybe South Australia or Southern Power but really this is a massive over reaction, Port are down and out at the moment, they'll pick themselves back up eventually.

If anything, PAFC should drop the 'Power' moniker. Call themselves, simply, Port Adelaide FC. Blur the lines between the SANFL and AFL sides, and push that idea of one club.

At the same time, 5-10 years olds are getting into footy, and don't remember the SANFL as a decent competition. Either build up this image of class, history, elusiveness, but don't mention the fact that everyone hated you. Or, just rebrand into the SA Power. Either way, the days of only supporting the SANFL Magpies are slowly dying out.

I think the OP is suggesting a name change, not a merger.
Rebrand is ugly enough, we changed our name. Dogs did like wise. I don't think people care what the name is. I think by rebrand in football terms it would need to be a fresh entity that isn't associated with Port Adelaide, and that is as good as dead in my opinion.

So you want Port to be renamed Adelaide eh.... o_O

Maybe we could rebrand all the Vic teams to Melbourne while we are at it?

Must be school hols
Manchester United
Manchester City

New York Yankees
New York Mets

At one time in the VFL we had Melbourne, North Melbourne and South Melbourne
I see no issue having
Adelaide Crows
Adelaide Power

I've said it before, I'll say it again.

It has to be Port Adelaide or no one.

If they change their name they alienate their own fans.

If they fold them and replace them they lose those fans forever and probably turn the new team into GWS like. Just no future.

The AFL needs Port Adelaide in their current setup, more than what people really believe.

Anyway, if Port were in Geelong's position, they'd be bringing in the fans. The image is mostly irrelevant, and is only being talked about because they're, to put it bluntly, shit. If Collingwood were using seating covers and had some recent spoons, people would be decrying the jumper – "it used to be white and black, not black and white!"

I would think they should be called something else and not "Power" as its kinda nothing.

Maybe Port Adelaide Pandas/Dragons, which could get the young ones early in Adelaide
May as well call them the Port Adelaide teletubbies if your gonna go down that line.

This is a brilliant idea but it doesn't change that the Crows are marketed as the team 'for all South Australians'.

Neither Port or Adelaide supporters would go for them

Well done, you just made a club more unpopular then Port Adelaide!

Yes, let's rebrand the team and alienate all of their current supporters, in the faint hope that they may attract ones who already support the Crows, or a random Vic/WA/QLD/NSW team they have some connection to. What a brilliant idea!

Port are struggling with crowd numbers and in general right now, but to the OP, they only had 5k less members than your club this year. Something tells me things would be different if they'd had Geelongs run of success in the past 5 years.
