This way our rookie list would be made up of 2 ruckman, 2 KPP and a utility.
Chris Stewart is ineligible for the pre-season or Rookie draft as he is only 17 (he has to be 18 buy 31st december this year)Originally posted by macca23
The rookie list is becoming one of the prime weapons for a smart club to improve it's list. The percentage of players graduating to the main list increases every year, so I hope to god we don't just fill ours up with bloody ruckmen that nobody else wants!!
With talent such as Gayfer (a Victorian), Chris Stewart (193cm key defender Vic), Ben Cosgriff (186cm inside forward Vic), Ben Clifton (191 cm FF Vic) and Dylan Phitzner (195cm Centrals forward) still available we would have to be mental not to use our first rookie draft pick on one of these or similar type players players rather than some ruckman with limited ability.
Personally I would take Gayfer at the pre-season draft.
I wouldn't take either of Dabrowski or Parry. Dabrowski isn't quite good enough IMO and turns 23 in January, while Krueger has been chosen for the role that Parry would have otherwise occupied. Parry is a good player though.
My ruck choices would be out of Dubienecki, Whitehead, Andrews or Lang. I'd only take one but they'll probably take 2 given the current ruck phobia.
The last spot HAS to be a mid-fielder/utility and both Bratton and Porplyzia would have to be reconsidered along with a mountain of other possibilities.

Totally agree. We have addressed the balance of our squad in the draft by adding 3 talls. We should be adding the best available talent with our rookies & looking at getting a mixture of playing positions to cover all bases (in case of am injury run). Adding 4 ruckman would be plain stupid, particularly considering we already have more than last year!Originally posted by macca23
What a ridiculous list!!! True to their word there's 7 giant pelicans (ruckmen) out of 10 running around in that lot!!
I know!! I know!! They can rookie draft anyone from anywhere and all I can hope that is that's exactly what they do. I've had a gutful of this AFC ruckman phobia!!
We have 2 top ruckmen playing. We now have 2 more ruckmen they claim are capable of playing straight away if needed. ONE rookie ruckman with a genuine future would do just fine. There just can't be a multitude of champion undiscovered ruckmen just lying around ignored by the other 15 clubs just when WE decide that we want more ruckmen.
There ARE 17 other positions on the ground.
FWIW Port's list is a terrific mixture of genuine chances covering several positions. There's a couple there certainly worth having.

We will go for 2 ruckman because Krueger is NOT a ruckman. He is a KPP. If we are to use a pre-season pick I would use it on Surjan. If we went for another KPP like Gayfer we would screw up the balance of our list. If we don't pick him in the pre-season draft he will be snatched up by Freo or WC with their rookie picks (if not earlier)
We will rookie list 2 ruckman because we only have 3 on our list and one of them is 30. I would draft Parry as a key defender because he is not AFL ruckman. I agree one of the picks would have to be a midfielder/utility type with Jarrod Wright a good choice.
Adding 4 ruckman would be stupid. No question about that. But the point is we don't have more ruckman than last year. Krueger is not a genuine AFL ruckman. He is a KPP prospect. He is the same height as McGregor but do we see him as a ruckman??????Originally posted by Kane McGoodwin

We have replaced that bloke that noddy supports with Hudson & we have added Krueger who could support either Biglands or Clarke if required. IMO, we are already ahead of last year. We are likely add at least 1 ruckman on the rookie list, so we will be better placed if either Biglands or Clarke get injured.Originally posted by Stiffy_18

I was refering to Parry as a Rookie list pick and you were refering to Gayfer for the pre-season pick. There is the difference. I don't think we will use our pre-season pick (but if we do I would go for Surhan) and Gayfer should be long gone by the time our 1st rookie pick comes alongOriginally posted by macca23
Surely you're contradicting yourself with the Gayfer - Parry argument Stiffy?? You say that taking a KPP such as Gayfer would screw up the balance of our list, and then go on to say that you would draft Parry as a key defender. Have I misunderstood something here???![]()
They also told us that with Rutten, Bock and Mattner we had 2 1st round picks and 1 2nd round pick. We believed them at the time but later found out it couldn't have been further from the truth. In the last couple of weeks I have watched a few games with Krueger playing for Glenelg. Believe me, he is no ruckman. That was my beef about overlooking Hall.As for Krueger, Adelaide have openly said that the choice was between hom and Hall - a ruckman. They finally went for Krueger because he can ALSO be a KPP and not just a ruckman.
I don't know much about Lang and Andrews. My guess would be that one ruckman will be Whitehead. 2nd one might be Andrews. Really have no idea. Hopefully I can get to training next week to see a few of those youngsters on the track. My last exam is on Saturday so I should make it to training sometime next week. Should know more thenHowever accepting that they are looking for 2 rookie ruckmen, who would your 2 be??? (and don't say Parry as you discounted him above as an AFL ruckman)

Kellett will be an interesting one, talent galore with no speed..if he could move faster he would have gone in the top 30 of the draft.

No we don't lose our 1st pick for Parker.Originally posted by DaveW
We don't seriously have to tokenise our first pick on Parker do we?
)Firstly, I would believe everything the 'tiser tells you!Originally posted by macca23
In the 'tiser today they stated that Adelaide WOULD be using their pre-season draft pick.
I can't see anything of value for us in the recycled players, so my option would be to go for a young KPP - one of Will Gayfer (a 192cm key defender), Chris Stewart (193cm key defender ), Ben Cosgriff (186cm inside forward), Ben Clifton (191 cm FF) and Dylan Phitzner (195cm key forward)
If we did that then I'd be happy to go with the 2 ruckmen on the rookie list topped up with 2 midfield/utility types.
With the 2 ruckmen, I think that one is likely to come fom the 2 interstaters Andrews and Lang, and one from the locals, either Whitehead or Dubieniecki.
I'll plump for Lang and Whitehead. (we gotta have a WWT player somewhere)
I'd be happy with the two Central boys Kellett and Thomas to round out the rookie list (with Parker in there as well of course)
I wouldn't believe what tiser prints. I doubt we would use the pre-season pick. If we are to use it surely Jacob Surjan is the man. If we add another KPP our balance of the list will be pretty poor IMHO. Adding Surjan would make our list perfectly balanced.Originally posted by macca23

To keep our options open.Originally posted by Crow-mosone
Whilst I think your argument makes some sense, why would choose a player in the preseason draft, who we could have picked up with No.67 in the national?
Yeah, but they got rid of him thoughOriginally posted by maccas_no1
