Adelaide might have gone too early with the latest contract extension to Nicks it's not like anyone is trying to poach him so why not wait and see how he goes in 2026? Compare this to Carlton who have decided to wait and see how Voss goes in 2026 before making a decision on his contract this is a coach who made a preliminary final in 2023 against Brisbane at the Gabba and had his team leading by 5 goals at one stage in the match.

Our admin is clearly pretty happy where the teams heading. Mind you, we do have the money to payout the contract should we need to.

Mind you, dunno if I'm doing this off a preseason game where we are missing 1/3 of our best 22 and a good number of our best players.

Cane top last year. Injuries and weird circumstances in the finals, so while it was hardly perfect it looked like a blip, not a revelation of weakness.

If youd told Crows at the start of last year "you will lose a final" that would have been a pass mark. Adelaide definitely exceded expectations and the coaching group was a big part of the improvement.

Nicks is not on thin ice but several coaches are. Sensible to extend him.

Nicks basically came at the start of a total rebuild for Adelaide. Voss came into a mature list after Bolton and Teague had taken the brunt of the early years that started at elast 4 years prior to the Crows rebuild.

Nicks has done a terrific job and why wouldn't you extend him.
Yes the Crows were terrible when Nicks arrived but the majority of their fans want him sacked hence why I don't see the harm in waiting to see how he goes this year before extending him.

Majority of their fans want him sacked? That surprises me, I would have thought they would be really pleased with what he has achieved so far, and looking forward to some potentially real success under him.

I wouldn't say the majority want him sacked.
BUt we certainly dont want contracts handed out before results.

With the exception of 23 into 24, it's been constant improvement. But even Richmond went backwards in their climb to a dynasty.

If he got the contracts he did 6 months later, I wouldn't care. But going as early as we have is an annoyance.
Off a bad year? 1 year extension before season
Off a disastrous finals campaign? 1 year extension before season.

He gets the team to top position.

Team has had no finals experience for years.

Why would anyone want to not extend for a year or two?

Entirely different situation to the Hinkley extensions, at the moment anyway.

There's just not enough A-grade talent for them to improve.. Overachieved this season and will come crashing down next season and miss finals.
I agree to an extent.

But if this crows side is capable of getting top spot despite straight sets exit in 2025, a 5th or 6th spot and a home Elim final win is achievable.

Crows are long overdue for a finals win

I don't know if it was a blip, though I'm not against the argument that losing Rankine/Rachele on the eve of finals was a bit of a death blow for a side that was on the lower end of ready elite talent out of the top 6. Sadly that is what tends to dictate finals success.

I do agree, especially whilst we're profitable to the point that if push comes to shove, a payout is quite affordable.
