Recon they might swing the likes of Burton, McLeod and Roo through full forward - this worked earlier in the season, leaving Welsh, Burns, Ladhams the pockets.

Maybe even Roo at CHF for part of the game with Carey at FF

I am 99.9% certain that Carey will play at CHF. I agree with your suggestion that those players will be rotated through the forward line.;)

is there any chance of a fine night? i'd love to know how the dons stack up against a premiership contender such as the crows..

My thoughts as well iceman, if we allow Fletcher to play as he likes to then that will put us on the backfoot so by playing a mid-range pacy rotating forward set-up should work well,

ps, Welcome to DJarman the more fuds around the place the better i like it, :)

More than not be a damp night,

& i still believe that if you guys do make the 8 & are at full strength then the Dons are a genuine threat come september just the same as the Crows,

not forgetting the finals draw could benefit the Dons or any other Vic club courtesy of the MCC,

Heres the Essendon line up:

Alessio (omitted) and Misiti (injured) are out while Watson and Cory McGrath are in.

Backs: McVeigh Fletcher Wellman
Half Backs: McPhee Jacobs Welsh
Centres: Solomon J. Johnson Ramanauskas
Half Forwards: Lucas Bolton Richards
Forwards: Cupido Lloyd McGrath
Rucks: Hille M. Johnson Hird

Bench: Watson Bullen Peverill Reynolds

Emergencies: Alessio, Barnard Forster-Knight

It sounds like it will be one of those nights where winning the toss will be very important (ala cricket matches at the Adelaide Oval).

The wind may swing around and one team may get the wind for 3 quarters.

I remember Malcom Blight used to think winning the toss was so important at Footy Park.

Forgive my ignorance (I haven't wathced too many Essendon games) but who is your back up ruckman from that lot?????? Fletcher or Lucas??????

sheedy's only playing one true ruckman, bolton's got a good leap though, and is used when hille needs to be rested.

Ladies and Gentleman,

I smell a rat. Sheedy is playing games IMHO. Watson has a groin injury yet he is brought into the side ahead of experienced hard nut like Barnard. I reckon there will be at least one late change. Sheedy is a master when it comes to mind games. I think Essendon have the greatest number of late changes this year than any other side. Sheeds is being a smart arse.;)

Crows Line-up

ADELAIDE
B: Smart, Bassett, Hart
HB: Massie, McGregor, Edwards
C: Stenglein, Ricciuto, Burton
HF: John****, Carey, Ladhams
F: Welsh, Biglands, Shirley
FOLL: Clarke, McLeod, Bickley
I/C: Begley, Bode, Burns, Torney
EMG: Gallagher, Hentschel, Mattner
IN: Begley
OUT: Perrie (susp.)

I'm forever smelling a rat where Sheedy is concerned. I never believe his line up until they take the field.

No any real surprises when it comes to 22 but I am VERY surprised that Hentschel is named as an emergency after a very ordinary game against Sturt at Unley:(

And another thing I find sus is that he is going into the game with one ruckman. He is coming up against one of the best (if not the best) ruck combination in the AFL and he is coming in with one inexperienced ruckman. I reckon Alession might be a late inclusion.

Stenglein won't play wing unless Hird does!! :) He'll follow Hird wherever he goes, be it forward back or centre.

Stiffy is right that Essendon are the most ridiculous team when it comes to naming players in their 22 that definitely won't play. Whether that's the case this week matters little, although I would have thought that Barnard woud have added toughness and experience that young Watson can't.

I just hope that the change in weather doesn't come into the equation at all. It would be tragic for either side's chances if the wind change came at quarter time and gave one side the wind for 3 quarters.

The problem is that we lack back-up talls at the moment & I guess AFC felt they had to name someone in case (god-forbid) one of our talls has a training mishap.

Dropping Alessio is a real surprise as it gives Hille limited backup against Biglands / Clarke. This could be a real bonus in ensuring our midfield gets 1st use of the ball.

Ben Rutten was in better form than Hentschel last week. God forbid, if one of the talls does have a training mishap then aren't we better off bringing in someone that is big enough to play KP.

What the hell am I talking about. There will be no training mishap as the game is on tommorrow. Last training session was today and everyone got through it.

Alessio is an ordinary ruckman but Hille is no star either. I think they needed both (and still might have both) ruckmen in their side to nullify Biglands and Clarke to some degree.

The midfield is the one area that Adelaide has a distinct advantage over the Bombers, and if we are to beat them, which I think we will, it has to be set up from here.

Best way of restricting Lloyd will be dominating the midfield & cutting off his supply.
