Are there any other professional sports in the world that have gone backwards so much in the last 25 years.

I would imagine most (all) pro sporta would have improved with so much money being pumped into sports these days.

Robbo with a cry "would Norf have a right to question the free kick imbalance"

Fast forward 20 years and we get the rough end of the pineapple every week.
We got smashed by umpires in Melbourne but we were so loud back then that we freaked the umpires out at footy park. I love footy now. Players stronger and fitter and professional. But nothing beats out crowd in 1993.

Certainly stronger and fitter, not as skilled though.

Noticeable how clean we are with our hands, not fumbly.

The big thing is the negative tactics employed today, how often do both teams kick 20 goals in a game?

Ultimate frustration is back in this game in 1993 it was the first time after they’d kicked 14 between them you saw how well the Modra Full-Forward, Robran Centre-Half Forward combination would work, but after Robran had sat out all of 1992 and then was played as a defender by Cornes to start ‘93 just started to show whilst still being his normal frustrating self he was starting to come good and help Modra considerably... then he goes and snaps his leg in two at the SCG :(

McGuiness was fantastic in that game. It's easy to forget how good he was in his heyday given his rather unceremonious exit.

Easily the best crows player in the early years and brought so much valuable VFL experience and clever play from his years with Footscray. When he still had his speed (‘91-93) he was one of the best attacking mids in the entire league, no secret that later this year in ‘93 Sheedy used Sean Denham expertly on him in the dreaded ‘93 prelim to expose this want to attack and exposed his weakness defensively and also took away the influence of his possessions and it had the ultimate impact it did in the end. Was never quite the same after that game and lots of injuries took away what was left athletically.

In his pomp when he got on his left boot you didn’t see a more accurate kick on the run inside 50 at full pace.

Always wondered if the club were going to bring back their ‘Hall of Fame’ thing (remember that?) from the 25th anniversary this year for the 30th anniversary (or they might just have flat out forgotten about it as well) whether McGuiness & McDermott would’ve been added and rightfully recognised this time for their contribution to the club’s start and early years and whether it would’ve been possible despite any personal matters or long standing personal or organisational feuds.
