Shirley, Jericho maybe, looking at the team from rd9 it would be a tough one, but thats why NC and the boys are paid the big bucks!! and armchair coaches like all of us remain just that.... :D

What exactly has Shirley done wrong to be dropped. He has been unfairly bagged here. Some people should just swallow their pride and admit that Shirley is playing some very good footy for us.

I'm feeling very confident about this one. Last years painfull loss will still be in the memory bank - remember in the games Carlton have the points this year, they have won by 4, 6 and drawn the games. A goal the other way and they would have lost the lot. No, I'm very confident and I hope its a fine day. Our midfield will have a ball. The 2 losses at AAMI - Brisbane and WC have midfields equal or better than the Crows and we just lost, Carlton don't. Crows by 45 points.

it will be interesting 2 see how we cope with pagans style. Ayres was deplorable in this area. So far this yr NC's game plan has either failed miserably or been a brilliant success, so its really unknown about what we will get served up. I wouldnt be suprised if we struggle a bit.

I agree with some others that Fergs time must come soon. Matchup wise carlton is ideal cause he wont be standing a big defender. However, the way we are traveling atm NC couldnt make a change. Give him 5 more sanfl games and if the form is still there he must come in.

The fact Shirls isn't getting bagged on here would suggest he has been pretty solid so far. Actually, Shirls, Mattner, Rutten, Doughty, Hudson and Skippy have all more than exceeded expectations. A couple of more games like Friday night from the Bockman and you can add him to this list.

If I was a Crows supporter i would be very confident of winning this one .
Roo always has a field day against the blues and i expect him to run amok again . with French gone and no backup ruckman of note i expect the crows to win in the middle and create pressure on our struggling backline . my tip ..crows by a comfortable 45 points
but then again i could be wrong ..i only tipped 3 last round ;)

I hate it when opposition fans tip us.

It was much better when we were invisible and flying under everyone's radar.

Well Ill be at the game, so I am tipping carlton to win, after adelaide has been winning for the majority of the game, as this has happened to 90% of the games I have been to. (one of the reasons I dont like to go to close games) I apologise in advance.
We SHOULD in theory, win....

No-one to replace him just yet - but remember me when he's finally replaced :D

Not playing badly - but as you would say....he's in the bunch of mediocre players and his upside is negligable.

What did someone say about acceptance of mediocrity ;)

We will - just as we do week after week when you refuse to acknowledge a player doing the job he's been asked to do by the coach. ;)

His current form is far from mediocre.

I forgot to find out who he was tagging last week...

Any idea?

Exactly right, I would say no change at this stage give Jericho another run, if anything goes 'pear shaped' at least he is an option for the forwardline.

If it anit broke, dont fix it

Spot on. He has really stepped up and I can't recall him being beaten this year. Had a great game last week on Luke Ball.

There's not much to discuss about this game. Carlton won't come to win. Infact I think we'll even be experimenting. Don't be surprised if Fevola lines up at fullback.

Carlton want picks. Adelaide want points. Both teams will walk away satisfied.

Those calling for Shirley's head, have not seen too many games this year. Last year I was not a big Shirley fan, but no-one can complain about his form this year.

Until someone better is able to come into the team to play this role, Shirley is our best tagging option.

Given the lack of form and or youth of potential players this will be not for a while yet.

Shirley is another player who is starting to show that you need to play 40-50 games a la Doughty, before backbone players feel comfortable and confrident in the side.

Lets hope we can say the same about BOck.

The problem is that any side can only have a certain number of these people.

We need to get more gun players into our team, before we will more games on a more consistent basis. These are the sorts of players that can win the game off their own boot on their good days, and can still do the miraculous on other days when they are not on fire.

Lets hope this will be Fergus, Meeson, Maric, Knights and the Count in time. I am confident two or three of these players will become 150-200 game players in the near future.

The good thing about the development of these players is that the spine could be vey potent in two or three years time.

If not we are screwed!!!

We're not even fit to mention the F word yet. Shouldn't even be in the vocabulary until at least round 18. It's the last word I want to hear ATM.
You are certain finalists. Without the brain fades like in your recent loss to Brisbane you are a fair chance for top 4. This week's game you are virtually unbackable.

This week the side should remain unchanged for the game against Carlton, unless there is an injury mishap at training tomorrow or Friday.

The only change I could see is Bode coming in for Reilly, I would not be happy if this happened because Brent Reilly should be given time to learn his craft on the wing in the AFL be he has been spending a bit of time on the bench in the last few weeks so a change may be made. The only other change I could foresee happening is Trent Hentschel coming in for Luke Jericho, but what purpose would dropping Hentschel have achieved? Wasn’t he out of form, so he will spend some time at WWT before he is back in the senior side? Luke Jericho needs to be given some game time or not play him, no point in giving a player a game just to have them sit there and not develop. Play him or drop him, if he is going to be a liability by being on the field, why was he selected?

Shirley? He had been a rock this season, sure he doesn’t do the spectacular things like roo, Macca, Edwards or Goodwin but he places his part and is vital to the teams success and chemistry.

While i am a fan of Shirl's i wouldn't rate his shut-down role against Luke Ball an overwhelming success as Ball was the only Saints player who could hold his head high after last Fridays game.

Shirley has deserved his place in our starting 22 & will not lose his place for the rest of this year unless something unforeseen happens.
