Yeah it was no Magic Mountain. Every now and then they'd do this deal where for 3 or so hours, you could pay a set price and play as many games as you wanted. Basically an all you can eat buffet with games. That was awesome. I'll always remember the panic and mad rush when they announced there was 15 minutes to go and there were still games you hadn't got around to playing yet.
South Road Timezone used to do all night lock ins in the 80s and early 90s. You paid your money and all the games were on free play.

30 of my players are headed to Adelaide this weekend for the SANFL GF, and will take in the SAAFL on Saturday as well. Any tips for them, good and bad, what to avoid?

I have the best Mt Thebarton story - although this was post-fake mountain time and only the ice rink was left... anyway...

It was a couple of years ago, in the middle of February and it was probably the hottest night of the year, didn't drop below 28C or something like that. We were playing a gig at The Squatters Arms just down the road. When we rocked up at the pub one of our mates who got a lift with us said the he was going to go under the Ice Arena carpark and find some kind of vent to cool off at some stage.

Later that night he went off with his girlfriend to do just that and found a door around the back where cool air was blowing out from the bottom gap, so he and his girlfriend sat that to chill out for a while... then one of them lent back on the door and it opened....

it opened up to under the bleachers/grandstand part of the ice rink - The place was still open and people were still skating around... they hid from sight and soaked in the cool air. Then while they were still in there, the music stopped and they started closing up and kicking everyone out - So my friends carefully closed the door so it was still ajar, and came back to the gig...

So they started telling everyone about their discovery, and when the gig finished about 1.30am, about 50 or so people went down to the road to the Ice Rink and went in through the opened door and got to muck around in the ice skating rink for a couple of hours on the hottest night of the year.

It was pretty awesome.. I feel a little bit sorry for whoever locked up because some of us made a bit of a mess pulling out old tabbagons and what have you from some store rooms, and one of the guys managed to get into the office part and turn the music and lights on so it was like a disco in there...

unfortunately i had to work at 7am the next morning so I left about 3am, but others stayed in there til the early hours...

was certainly very fun :D

I remember this place in Hindley street. I use to rollerskate there all the time, from about 7 or 8 years old.

24. Adelaide, Australia
On the southern coast, art, food and more.

Sure, Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, is close to both wine country and beaches. But there are more reasons to stay in the city, thanks largely to an energetic arts scene — anchored this year by festivals like the Adelaide Festival, WOMADelaide, SALA and the biennial Adelaide Film Festival — and robust dining scene that encompasses everything from street (Fork on the Road) to posh (Hill of Grace, atop the redeveloped Adelaide Oval). Stellar local ingredients can be found at South Australia’s first organic and sustainable market and so can inspired menus (Sean’s Kitchen), while cool bars (Maybe Mae) and cafes (La Moka) dot a renewed West End precinct. Adding to the city’s vitality are Art After Darkand First Fridays: live music, speakers, exhibitions and screenings during extended hours at Samstag Museum, the design-centricJamFactory, Art Gallery of South Australia and galleries. The cultured atmosphere extends to lodging: In February The Watsonbecomes Adelaide’s newest art hotel.ROBYN ECKHARDT

Just watch out for the crazy wiccan nutters in the barossa/northern suburbs. Remind me of the amish on meth.

Yeah that was a pleasant surprise when I was scrolling through the list.

It is interesting that, depending on who you ask, we're either a town full of bogans and murderers that is best avoided (bogans/naive teens/big footy) or a pretty cool little city with plenty to do that is worth a look (pretty much everyone else in the world)...

We could succeed the whole capitalist world, we're that bloody good. Need a pretty big fence to keep the oompa loompas (Victorians) out. We have natural barriers on every other border (desert/river)

We lead this nation, socially, politically, culturally, industrially, in agriculture, aquaculture, horticulture, permaculture, wine. We have massive cattle farms, massive mines, massive sheep studs, the best marine eco systems left on the planet, the best footballers. We make steel, lead, cars, ships, subs

Salman Rushdie once said Adelaide would make a good setting for a Stephen King novel. I took that as a compliment, the place is a bit weird at times, that's part of it's appeal. I don't like to seewaste my time on well adjusted people, or places.

The Colorado Kid was inspired by the Somerton Man case.

How is the old St Kilda playground? Haven't been there in years, have heard most of the fun stuff is long gone?

Hahaha, never forget going there on a school excursion when they had a giant one of these there.

If you get enough ratbag kids on one of those things it can go fast enough to make you genuinely fear for your life.

'Hmmm, we've espoused every other Australian city.... Who's next?'

I love it here, but its like reading the Times All-Time Top 100 Novels, where they actively put in authors 'Other reads' as the best on account of their publishers just to boost sales because everyone reading the list has their actual standout work.

(Just trying to make sure we remain underrated)

Any chance of actually supporting yourselves financially?

Most of the bogans are the south aussie's who head over here as they can't get a job at home plus they probably don't want to end up in a barrel.

Currently doing the rounds of bogan fb in Adelaide. Brought to you by Gina Reinharts marketing department.
