Adelaide's decline

When Port were in the doldrums a few years back were they cut same sort of slack from the SA media?
Just go back and read the vitriol from Port tragic Michelangelo Rucci. He was as brutal on the club as anyone.

Now that the shoe is in the other foot he has lost his Advertiser gig for far softer commentary.

Looking at the playing lists at the start of the season, I'd say that Adelaide 2020 had a far better list (for that season, not factoring in future potential) on paper than any of those sides did.

I didn't expect Adelaide to be good this year (I thought they be in the 11th-14th range, but play a more exciting brand of footy than in years past), but I certainly didn't expect them to be this far off the pace, either.
I don’t think anyone saw us falling this far, but what we are seeing now is due to our clubs refusal to back in youth when our season was shot last year. It’s hard to fathom that Jacobs, Douglas, Otten and Knight were all playing at the end of last year, while the kids we are finally seeing now like Sholl, McHenry, Stengle and McAdam were playing Sanfl.

It was completely shortsighted and that loss to North could be a pivotal turning point in our fortunes, as a win there and I worry the same disappointing senior players would’ve been backed in over a proper rebuild. Our selections for that game smacked of an administration meddling in selections and forcing Nicks to play more senior players to get a win. As seen over the last two games, playing our youth is bringing out better performances and has to be the way forward. If we had gone this way from round one I think we win a couple of those 50/50 games that we were in most of the game.

The wins will only come if we persist with the same selection strategy from the last two games and the youth build some confidence. Sholl is a great example, already producing more than we saw from Atkins against North.

I literally can't even remember it.

Bigger fish to fry.

Genuine question, are you worried about Port fading out as finals approach again? Your club has been in a similar position recently, albeit a 22 round season, only to fade badly in the run home. What makes this year different? You know the Port list better than me.

as i said, not an expert on your list and just going off the big names ive heard of.

still shouldnt be a winless team.

Yes, it should.

Our list is woeful.
We have the worst fitness boss in the league.
The shittest, shallowest and cheapest coaching panel.

We deserve to go winless - and I hope we do; it is the best chance of forcing Chapman, Roo and Fagan out.

Be interested seeing the for and against in second halves. Suggest its pretty grim. Falling away second halves can be confidence but it's probably fitness related as much as anything

It was definitely fitness last year (had some awful fade outs last year as well) and then obviously this year a combination of fitness and the inexperience of the side.

First half worse. Only won one while Adelaide have won three second halves

I was until the Richmond game.

I am much more convinced now.

Are you worried about Adelaide fading?

Just going by percentage in terms of the last 18 years, lowest percentage each year here is what we have

1. Carlton (2005) - 75.5%
2. Carlton (2007) - 74.4%
3. Carlton (2006) - 74.1%
4. Richmond (2009) - 74.3%
5. Brisbane (2017) - 74.3%
6. Richmond (2010) - 73.0%
7. Richmond (2004) - 69.2%
8. Carlton 2003) - 66.7%
9. Carton (2015) - 64.8%
10. Melbourne (2008) - 62.6%
11. Essendon (2016) - 61.0%
12. St Kilda (2014) - 60.8%
13. Gold Coast (2019) - 60.5%
14. Carlton (2018) - 59.3%
15. Gold Coast (2011) - 56.3%
16. Adelaide (2020) - 55.5%
17. GWS (2013) - 51.0%
18. GWS (2012) - 46.6%

So other than GWS in their first 2 years there has not been a worse team (percentage wise) than Adelaide in recent memory.

the crows have nothing left as a franchise. nobody there cares about them. none of their past players care about them. even their two time winning flag coach is bewildered by them as an entity and has nothing nice to say. they are spent in every way. there is no way back. I don't even care about bigfooty banter with their fans anymore, it's pointless. they can go back to their original state clubs and die with their true colours. I want that for them. Poor ****s.

And this is with shortened quarters. Full quarters with fully rested top flight teams may have seen frequent 100+ point loses.

Being a passionate fan when your team sucks is horrible. I don’t feel for the players at all, but for those fans that live for the footy and it is their one small reprieve during the week...

It’s easy to empathise with that group.

M8 stop being so salty just because we have the most history of any SA AFL club.

Just in case anyone missed it this morning triple m Adelaide...ricciuotto said he is staying on for the long haul and wants to see the crows through and out the other side of all this

Why doesn't he properly take on being the Chairman, or CEO, or Head of Football then?

Seems weirdly happy to continue puppeteering in the background.
