Adelaide's decline

What the actual fu**? Game day protests during a pandemic? Oh yes very good idea. Shall we all take the to streets? That'll go down well.

Or maybe you mean signs being unfurled that immediately get confiscated and you ejected?

I have seen NUMEROUS letters to both media and the club demanding change.

You and reality are not living in the same postcode pal. People aren't happy and they are making it known, but we have fu** all power made even worse during a pandemic.

Don't be so disrespectful.

In game protests. If you are going to the game and clapping you are not exactly making a stand

Ohhhhh right, take it out on the players. Gotcha, great idea.

To really drive home the point you want to bring morale down even further and drive a wedge between the fans and the players.

You want media to go into overdrive about how lifeless and uncaring Adelaide supporters are? Have you never heard of Rucci and Cornes? They would turn that story against the crows fans.

This is getting pretty embarrassing. Either come up with something actually viable or shut up.

You cant articulate a point before you make it? You can chant "Sack the board" for example?, hold up signs telling people what you are booing about. You know actual noise?

Its pretty easy to drum up support for a "turning our back on the board" type stand. Soccer clubs do it all the time etc. Im hardly floating this wild new theory here.

Instead of making excuses for why it cant be done, find out a way to do it, and then do it. Much better use of energy

Game day protests and noise beyond a silent jab on a message board is what is needed? You have mentioned many times they are protected by the media. If you want to remove that protection make some actual noise. Stop sitting behind a keyboard with your membership card in your pocket and proclaiming that is enough to demand change.

At this stage id be feral about it. Anything to get something done at this stage has to be done.

I sometimes read their board for a bit of amusement but never comment on it because commenting on another teams board is akin to punching yourself in the nuts.

They did have a thread on their stating that the members should start boycotting games because given the way they are set up (Port as well), they can't vote out their boards. It got many of the usual responses, We don't want to be like Poort, it'll achieve nothing, you're not a real supporter blah blah blah.

But you know what? During Port's down period, when crowds dropped dramatically, it forced a lot of issues:
  1. A CEO planted by the SANFL actually started calling out the SANFL for their shocking treatment of both clubs but Port in particular from a financial standpoint.
  2. Port got reunification with the Magpies which had fractured our supporter base.
  3. Pretty much Port's entire board got changed, new President, new CEO.
  4. The push for Adelaide Oval gained momentum and occurred
  5. Both club's got their licenses off the tyrannical SANFL
  6. The SANFL itself was saved by being able to sell off the Footy Park precinct and give itself medium term financial reprieve.
All of this had it's genesis it Port fans voting with their feet. So yeah, a lot can happen from members showing their disdain. A bloody lot.

I have already told you i have sighted numerous letters to both the club and the media. Yknow, private and public.

I have already explained to you that a lot of people turn up to games and don't care much beyond that. Families, elderly etc hardly likely to become militant.

You keep acting like nothing is happening but I would suggest the mail getting to the club does more than 100 people holding a sign that would be taken off them within a minute and not played by the networks.

Again, reality and you live in different postcodes.

Social media protest, x minute mark of x quarter everyone makes some sort of gesture. It's about the best you can do atm.

And it also bred the stereotype that Port fans are fair weather, to be replaced by tarps during the tough times.

Again. You are acting like Crows members are doing nothing. Also, in a year where crowds are already reduced, boycotting the game wouldn't be put down to anything other than that exact issue - the pandemic.

Reality check please.

This silent protest is working is it? If its not working you change tact

Its extrmemely easy to toss a letter in the bin without reading it. You cant toss a "sack the board" chant in the bin. You cant also dodge the question when the media sees it (unlike a secret letter) and then reacts to it by asking questions

If I have to go searching for a protest, its not really much of a protest? It should hit me in the face and be so obvious it gets mentioned constantly. ATM the protest is so light on no one is talking about it or mentioning it. A good sign of a failing stand

Protests all over social media. Go have a look. From organised petitions to feedback on club posts.

Of course people will point out the elderly grandmas and mums of crappy junior footballers who get on there and back the club blindly but that's never going ti change and all clubs have them.

We got Change. Massive Change. Chapman is still your President. Dumb Arse Rucciutto is still calling the shots. You are the shittest team in living memory. Your club culture and player retention is horrific. Your ambassadors in the media continue to protect you. If all your Beryl supporters keep rocking up nothing will change.

I wonder why they didn’t pick Port? Did they not know they were formed in 1870?

Yes they would have known the Port Adelaide Football Club was formed in 1870.
They also would have known a club documentary (approved by the AFL) celebrating 150 years was already in production, We have our (completed) documentary and Adelaide will have theirs (maybe). Should it be released, very little if anything of 2020 will be included. The "club of many secrets" will make sure of it. My prediction. It won't see the light of day.

This is nonesense. Sport is about supporting a winning team with a winning culture, not brownie point stereotyping

Port Adelaide are 1st on the ladder. They are proof that demanding change works, not demanding change is bad cos it hurts your feelings

Brisbane fans did nothing of the sort and are in a similar position to Port?

This ignores the fact that Port have not won a final in 6 years. There is no proof yet that anything other than 'draft 3 guns in one year while still having a former AFL MVP and AA midfielder' is a winning strategy. Their fans (on BF) have been calling for 'Sack Hinkley' and 'Koch Out' for years, and suddenly their appointment because of 'demanding change' was the best thing ever?

A group of Richmond fans 'demanded change', nothing changed and they won 2 premierships.

Thats exactly my point, stop acting like fans have their heads in the sand.
Bigfooty isn't the only representative.

That's the passionate, predominately males who are computer capable.

The lion share of the Crows supporter base wouldn't fit that.

The club has only themselves to blame. Needs a clearout from top to bottom. I'm happy to sit through a few years of wooden spoons if we shed the dead weight, but that happening is hardly likely.
you don't want to sit through 3 years getting wooden spoons. It doesn't lead to a certain flag. Swans of 1992-4 proves it, so does Carlton of 2005-7. You also don't want to listen to the media asking you to get a certain player like Melbourne did with Jack Watts in 2008.

You would rather get 5-7 wins for the next 2-4 years and get pick 2-5 instead rather than pick 1

Brisbane probably get a bit more license after creating argubaly the most successful team in history perhaps. I would anyway

In rergards to Richmond, you are confusing playing group failures to boardroom failures. If Brendon Gale oversaw salary cap breaches that resulted in draft spot losses, massive player exodus due to poor player treatment, multiple players at other clubs being paid huge wages by their own to be elsewhere, relatively poor financial management in comparison to the clubs size. In any sense, 3 years in and Gale had turned Richmond back into a successful club. If anything he proves what good changes do do not the point you are making

Plenty on socials too. Plenty on radio. Anyone who doesn't know how to use a computer likely fit into the old person category for wouldn't have a bad word to say about anything regarding the club. Every club has them, they are not your basis for representation either

You have a crap load of that type.
It's a large demographic in SA.

Plenty on socials too
Apologisists and pathetic glass half full types no matter the situation.

There's not the criticism in the media that Port copped. People are still looking at positives. Constructive criticism changes things. Not blind support.

You brought Richmond up as a example btw. How does their reaction compare to Adelaides? They didnt stand for it one little bit if you ask me. They did get change (Brendon Gale) and then they did get success (2 premierships in 10 years since)

You used them as a sign of failure, when in reality they are the definition of success in regards to what happens when you change the backroom staff and get those new faces in to lead the way

Here

I guess the issue is you feel nothing changed. Everything changed. New CEO, new coach, new assistants, new recruitment bosses, poached NeiL Balme from Collingwood. I dont think anything more could have changed really......
