Adelaide's decline

Stud Cornes was on Melbourne radio during the week defending and making every excuse under the sun.
Denial is the absolute worst place a club can be.
If this is the level of accountability the crows are held to in the Adelaide media, it’s a hole they may never climb out of ...
This. Anyone who's not in SA doesn't understand.

They don't have the accountability here. If they get attacked they go after the journalist.

Nothing's 'gone wrong'. He's just not much good. One of the best set shots at goal in the league, has no other AFL level characteristics.

Can’t do much when their midfield is getting dominated. If he gets 2-3 shots inside 50 he will usually take them.

Needs to get far fitter though. I thought he played a bit of midfield in his junior years? Or draft watchers thought he’d develop into a big inside midfielder? Still far better he’s on their list.

This year is going to be the perfect storm for Adelaide though. Declining, plus no crowds to will them to unlikely victories in home games, plus blooding youth.

What are Crows supporters thoughts on Doedee as their next captain? Seems the perfect choice to lead if not next year then a some point. Always plays with maturity and composure, and never drops his bundle. Nice to see him coaching McAsey after he was beaten in a marking contest. Seems like a good guy.

Every club looks sh*t and hits rock bottom sooner or later.

It's how long they sit there that matters.

If they believe that they've turned the corner after the review, they haven't even started the road to recovery.

This is not a blight on Crows fans here, you guys need to change the public image.
Agreed.
We've all been there.
It's being held accountable that's essential if change is to happen.
And Adelaide media will not hold the AFC accountable.

Was it already a mistake to pick Fischer McAsey with pick 6?

I don't doubt his talent or anything, but it looks like Adelaide have far bigger problems going forward than key defence.

No. McAsey would be the last of their problems atm.

Tough ask for an 18 year kid to sit in front of that onslaught. Didn’t think he was horrible despite some shaky moments.

2019:
Pick 6 - Fischer McAsey
Alternatives: Caleb Serong, Hayden Young, Sam Flanders

2018:
Pick 8 - Chayce Jones
Alternatives: Jye Caldwell, Jackson Hately, Zak Butters, Jordan Clarke

2017:
Pick 12 - Darcy Fogarty
Alternatives: Jarrod Brander, Zac Bailey, Ed Richards, Jack Higgins

2016:
Pick 15 - Jordan Gallucci
Alternatives: Todd Marshall, Jarrod Berry, Tim English, Will Hayward

2015:
Pick 11 - Wayne Milera
Alternatives: Charlie Curnow, Daniel Rioli

You're missing the point. I'm not having a go at McAsey, I'm just questioning whether or not a key defender is what they needed at that point in time.

Consider the following: Why was it an onslaught? Perhaps because their midfield is horribly slow and in desperate need of re-energizing.

I tell you what is it too hard to ask for the commentators to not be audibly gleeful over a team's poor performance

yeah, give em the whack they deserve, yes give Gold Coast all the credit they deserve, but flipping Dwayne Russell and Brad Johnson were audibly climaxing over that game

totally unprofessional

On topic - burn down the club and rebuild it, it's trash

Talia not getting any younger. Doedee a bit undersized to play KPD. Wasn’t really any outstanding midfielders taken after him shouting out to be selected.

I think it’s the 16-18 drafts that are going to hurt far more than last seasons.

Brad Johnson is probably happy because he remembers Michael and Daniel Talia cheating to win the 2015 elimination final.

Bit of Wayne Carey about this post... deny, deny, deny.

I'll leave it up to anyone who wishes to take 5mins to take a look to decide who is 'spouting crap'. Plenty of support there for Ricciuto over his comments in the past couple of days.
Deny what? We all know we are Carlton mid 2000s levels of shit. The Crows can’t move forward properly without completely purging out most of the 2017 GF players. Talia, Brown and Sloane are the only three I would keep. The rest are either cooked or mentally shot.

Crouches must be traded. Atkins delisted. Seedsman traded. Laird traded. Tex retires. Lynch stays on as backup. Our list changes for 2021 are absolutely critical for our future success.

To be fair to Adelaide, the tragic death of Phil Walsh and it's impact on the psyche of The Crows players has left more scars than many people realize IMHO.

I know Pyke got them into a Grand Final, but his man management ability in hindsight was poor..

Walsh seemed to Have The Crows on the
right track and the players seemed to love him, and then Dangerfield bailed at the end of the season.

I do not believe the players should be blamed for the current club malaise, they just look like a broken (spiritually) group after a few emotionally draining years, and for that the club's administration and people like Riccuito have to take blame for creating what seems to be an hostile playing environment.

People keep reacting to Ricciuto dumping on ex-players. I was shocked to learn he's running the club. I'm sure he does a great job at the Alma Hotel but he's a complete thickhead (as accurately depicted on AFL Front Bar) and you wouldn't want him within 100 Malcolm Blight torps of your footy department.

Club rebuilding starts off-field. Pick a good board and CEO, who in turn pick good people in the footy department. Nicks is probably a fine coach but surrounded by dickheads and thickheads he won't complete his contract.

To wit: look at Gold Coast over last 3-4 years. Cleared out the old management, cleared out the coach, cleared out the list. Takes awhile but pretty obvious Crows need a root and branch makeover as well.
