Adelaide's decline

Adelaide’s list is woeful
Nicks has a tough gig but needs to be given a go!
Is there genuinely 1 crows player that would get a guernsey for a full strength Richmond, wcoast, Geelong, Brisbane?

Reilly O'Brien would be first ruck for 3 of those sides. Laird would be a walk up start at all of them.

I would be keeping him on the list next year only if he agrees to being a non playing assistant coach.

See what you're saying but he's exactly the sort the AFC don't need more of behind the scenes (or at the club in general) if they're to climb out of this mess.

That’s crap mate. I understand Port supporters don’t like him but his career stats speak for themselves, unless somehow those stats I posted above don’t mean much in your view? In 2017 he kicked 54 and had 33 goal assists within the highest scoring forwardline in the league, it was ridiculous that he missed out on the AA team that season. Twice voted by his peers as captain of the year, so despite the crap he cops on here he is highly respected in club circles. The only thing missing from his resume is a premiership, but even some of the absolute greats never played in one so that doesn’t define whether you were a champion.

He's not a champion footballer. And yes either is Hawkins. Very good to elite players a lot of the time but not champions.

Carrying him to his 200th, which he absolutely deserves, but what his body is physically capable of just isn’t at AFL standard anymore and I hope that his 200th is also a farewell game. Even his field kicking has completely deserted him. I would be keeping him on the list next year only if he agrees to being a non playing assistant coach.

Walker is contracted next season on big money and has apparently said in the media he fully intends to go around again next season.
He won’t walk away from his last big payday and either will Gibbs, why should they ...

2009-11: Emerging
2012: 60+ goals and started to announce himself as a start of the comp
2013-14: ACL and recovery
2015-17: Star, and led the comp in score involvements in 2017
2018-now: Decline (although still managed 43 goals and 10th in the Coleman last year)

Look, calling him a champion is a stretch (champion of the club, but not the league). He may not have quite achieved his potential (his ACL would have played a part in that) but he's still carved out an excellent career. The end is here though, and the decline came pretty rapidly, almost Travis Cloke-like.
i think captaining the side, and strongly, through the grieving of phil walsh was pretty special. he's a champion for that at Adelaide, surely.

Yeah he's special alright.
Wheres that pic of him with glad wrap over his face!?

Geez this is heavily overstated. Taylor Walker acted appropriately and like a man who's boss, that he'd known barely 6 months, had passed away. This wasn't his child, spouse, close mate or family member. It was a person he knew professionally for 6 months. A shock to the system, yes, sad of course, but far out, this "brave, heroic, lead from the front, pillar of strength" narrative is so overblown which of course has lead to his highly coveted, tick a box, dual Captains of the Year awards that desperate Crows fans point to to try a claim Taylor's greatness.

really harsh.

6 months and would have spent hours upon hours with him.

40+ other blokes in the team - some hurting, some not as phased; have to get around all of them every day. Get used to campo as coach and support him, most of all be the club spokesperson for the media with all of the above on your shoulders. Not to mention performing to a high standard each week. the coach got murdered by his own son ffs, the situation was brutal as all hell - whether you knew him or not.

you are a very harsh dude. or you just hate adelaide and tex something shocking.

Totally disfunctional club.
Denial is the absolute worst place a football club can be.
Adelaide seem condemned to the footy wilderness for years ...

It looks that way. Bad teams bottom out and rebound, bad clubs stay there. No disrespect, but I see us more in the Demons and Blues space of recent history, but worse. That said, Chapman and his banking mate Jim Hazel apparently leave the board this year and they seem to have failed in selecting preferred replacements to keep their legacy flowing. Our only hope is someone walking in with an understanding that it's completely broken. That is looking like a genuine chance at the moment.

They shouldn't. If we could fit it into this year's cap, they should be paid out in full and Tex thanked for his service. There's been posts on our board that he's fully aware he's done as a player this year, where have you heard he plans to go around again? I've not heard it, but I may have blocked it out if I had.

It has happened at my club and I have detested it. You EARN 200 games - they are not gifted to you. It diminishes the achievement.

O'Brien would comfortably be the first ruck at Richmond, Geelong and Brisbane. Who would be ahead of him?
I'll give you Richmond. Martin and Stanley are better than ROB in 2020. Whether clubs would play him as a 2nd ruck for his development is hard to say. Whether he will have a better career than them is hard to say.

The only thing missing from his resume is any form of personal achievement eg. All Australian or Best and Fairest as well as team success.

He'll go down as a club champion, but that is all.

Stanley is better than ROB? I don’t think even Geelong supporters would admit that. Martin also hasn’t played for over a month. Try harder.

I give him props for 2015 but 2015 doesn’t equal 2018-20, the start of the decline.

I really think people are underestimating how bad they actually are. Once again the young players were just dreadful again. They have to keep playing Sholl/McAsey/Stengle/Himmelberg despite not performing at all and looking overwhelmed.

This is the lowest we have seen a team since Fitzroy

Stef Martin would be ahead of O’Brien in 2020? 😂😂😂😂 Thanks for proving your ignorance :)
