Adelaide's decline

gonna be Brutally honest here.... Your teams midfield has gone backwards.

I seriously though guys like Sloane, Rory Laird, Broadie Smith and Matt Crouch was gonna get the crows finals and a finals win in 2024.

But seriously some of those mids aged 23 or under are not doing enough.

I have brought this up.

Pick 6 in that 2019 draft. Crows chose tall defender fisher mcasey at pick 6. dockers had picks 7 and 8. They chose Hayden Young and Caleb Serong.

Combination of the two. But at the game on Friday he really struggled below he’s knees where he’s historically really crisp.

He seemed to be up the ground a lot, out in the open and exposed for his manoeuvrability. Needs to stay within the 50 metre zone. Mark & kick.

We sure have gone backwards!

Have no idea why we have given up on last year's game plan of moving the ball quickly for the slow movement approach.

In preseason they got the balls out earlier, but you wouldn't know as skill level has been atrocious. The opposition have marked more of our balls in out forward line than we have with terrible delivery.

The major concern for me was the way the coaches didn't properly match up Stewart in round 2. Then the last game we play an injured Walker who made your captain look like an AA. The long plane flight would have been perfect for a dodgy back.

Midfield mix with both Crouch & Laird is wrong. Laird needs to go back to defence with Milera out for the year. This time last year Rachele was getting Midfield time... & after a decent preseason he is now getting hardly any. VB is clueless!

Our season appears over before it started.

We used to think our recruiting and development were good, with scores like Rory Laird picked from the Rookie Draft and Rory Sloane picked at 44 in the National Draft. Yet we've now had many high draft picks in the last ten years, and squandered most of them on players like Jordan Gallucci, Lachlan Murphy, Chayce Jones and Shane Macadam.

That we traded in Isaak Rankine and Jordan Dawson was more luck than anything - the go-home factor. The go-home factor has definitely been a net negative for the club over the years.
Jordan Galluci over Sam Powell Pepper in 2016.

Chayce Jones over Zak Butters or Xavier Duursma in 2018.

Fisher McAsey over Caleb Serong or Hayden Young in 2019.

Crows current midfield will get you finals and a finals win. But not a flag

Saying that, I see the crows make finals this season in 2025

Well Nicks did something in the 2024 off season .

Unlucky vs the suns

Not a flag. That's a big call. This year might be a stretch but most of the Crow's improvement has come from its younger brigade and it could get even better in a year or 2.

Yeah Nicks picked that dud Murphy, which arguably was the difference between winning & losing.

Any of Taylor, Pedlar, Dowling, Schoenberg or Cook would have been a better option.

Just keeps repeating same mistakes over & over.

Hard to win a flag as a non Vic side like the crows or Freo unless the grand final opponent is a non Vic side like in 2005-6 between swans and eagles or like 2024 between swans and lions.

Even when crows hit their peak of a flag window of like 2027-8, I can't see them beat a Victorian side like hawks or cats in a grand final

I said on the crows board that the crows will get 14 wins In 2025. So 9 or 10 wins at home and 4 or 5 away wins.

That's fair, the VicBias is a blight on the game. It will hurt the league financially to fix it but honestly I think it's a must.

Do clubs have a "character" or a successful style they express when they're at their best? I think so, I think the best Crows sides show skill, and a tenacious flexibility. The Blight flag side had that as did the 00s side that went close. 2017 less so, enough skill of course but maybe too Tex focussed, the Crows are at their best when you dont know what they will do next.

This version aren't relying on a solo forward, looks more like a successful Crows side to me.

There has been some shocking selections, that's for sure.
Fisher McAsey had mental health problems rather than lack of talent, and we replaced him with Worrell who we took in the same draft.

I disagree with the midfield assessment.
Rankine and Dawson are two of the elite mids in the comp, Soligo is fast becoming one, Peatling has now hit some real form, and Draper is one of the best from the last draft.
We also have a few young ones in the seconds that have some real potential in Dowling, Taylor, Ryan and Edwards.
We also have Matt Crouch who is a ball magnet and an AA and B&F and Ben Keays can roll through there, and came runner up in our B&F in the midfield.

Gold Coast has one of the best midfield and ours went head to head with them.

Crows midfield is good but could be remarkably better.

Powell Pepper, Zak Butters would be in your sides best 22.

Hayden Young would be a solid 20-25 disposals a game player that can kick with either foot that the crows need. Would free up Rory Laird from the back flank

Butters would be easily

Caleb Serong or Hayden Young over McAsey would of made the crows midfield much nicer.

Serong plays like Robbie Gray at Port. Throw him in the middle or occasionally on a forward flank to do damage.

I can understand crows getting McAsey at the time. They needed a tall defender. But crows defender stocks are fine now.

I would love Powell Pepper at the dockers. Him, Brayshaw, Serong and Jager O'Meara in the middle would work

Yeah, no. Point one, Murphy pulled off a >10 rating point game by ChampionData (9th on ground), which is an ok performance for a depth forward (and as long as he's dropped, all good on Adelaide's front). Point 2: Adelaide wins if they minimise critical skill errors/brain fades and all of our leaders (and highly skilled players) had multiple **** ups at critical times - outside of Thilthorpe. All it takes is for Fogarty to not miss that pass to Tex in the square, Curtin/Soligo not run into each other, Cummins and Rankine not giving up stupid 50 meter penalties etc.

Outside of Dowling, who is more of a wing option and may have a future, the rest are just fodder to be delisted now.

Lol, you think Murphy had a good game based on champion data.

I prefer to actually watch the game & judge it myself.

I wouldn't bother trusting your eyes. They're clearly not working if you think Murphy was the reason we lost :)

Another poor call.

SPP is a very handy player

Gallucci was a fail.

SPP is wasted talent, as much as he's an ok half forward. I certainly would not be spruking him as "oh Adelaide's drafting is poor". Or a reason we missed out on midfield talent, which is what that post was directed at.

I said he was a reason not the reason.

Lol, using Champion Data to justify his game.

It was trash!

Try watching the actual game rather than following stats... though you could get a job as a journalist Lol.

SPP is an AFL player. Gallucci is not. Calling it a draw is a ridiculously bad call!

No way PP would make our midfield. Butters is fantastic though

While we were all trashing Adelaide for the last 3 years they were working away and now we look dumb.

Draft steal in Soligo, Thilthorpe the standout in the draft. Solid recruits, mature players like Laird, solid game plan and at this stage have the best spread of players stawise in the competition.
