Probably an incredibly simple question. How do I move an anchor point on a path? When I'm making the path, I'll use the command key (on a Mac) to move it, but once it's complete, it's impossible for me to move it. Well, obviously not impossible. I've even tried the convert anchor point tool but that doesn't seem to help.

Click on it and hold the Shift key at the same time.
Then you should be able to move it

OK,
First download the template
http://www.bomberblitz.com/mero/1950.ai
This one is an old Melbourne jumper with sponsor logos.
It is in 5 Layers. If you don't have Layers turned on, go to Window>Layers to turn them on.
Overlay is the top one, and it's turned off, if you click on the space where the little eye comes up, this then turns the layer visible and makes the 3D look to the jumper.
Collar and Cuffs sit on the top layer of the jumper.
If you want to change the cuffs to a different colour, click on the circle on the right side of the Cuffs box. This highlights all the 4 cuffs. Then click on a colour from your swatches and this colour will replace the Red. I recommend using the AFL Palette that I've uploaded for Illustrator and is available in the Templates thread.
From this Layer you can also change the type of collar you see. If you click on the eye next to the existing collar, and then again on the eye next to the one under it, the 70's-80s collar will appear. Do the same with Vee neck and you'll get the 80s/90s collars without the top part of the collar.
If you want to change the colour, click on the small triangle next to the name. This opens up all the shapes that make up the collar. In this case the initial shape is made up of some Red, some Black, some buttons and some grey. Click on all the Red ones and change them to the colour you want. You can also select all of them at once by clicking on one, then Ctrl clicking on the rest.
Once selected, go to you swatches and select the replacement colour.
You also click on each individual shape using the Direct Selection Tool(white arrow) and changing the colour that way.
Front is, perhaps not surprisingly, the Front of the jumper. It consists of two Groups, Front Designs and Front. Front Designs is a Clipping Mask. Anything you put in this group will only show what is inside the outline of the jumper. If you like, make a shape, like the rectangle tool or circle (click on the little arrow on the rectangle box and the other shapes come up) drag that shape you made into the Front Designs Clipping Mask and only the section of it inside the jumper will be seen.
You can also change this jumper to a 70s Footscray jumper by clicking on the Visibility Eye thing and turning off the Yoke and turning on the bands.
Back contains a couple more things, namely the numbers and the stitching over them that makes them look sewn on. That is a whole other tutorial, which is here: http://www.thedesignplaybook.com/illustrator-tackle-twill/
However, the back is basically the same as the front, apart from the numbers.
Back Designs is the Clipping Mask that borders out what you don't want seen, and Back is the basic colour of the back.
You can select any of the shapes through the Layers panel and then once selected, click on a colour in your Swatch and change it to that colour.

Any questions, put them in this thread.

Next time could you name the groups. Its confusing and its a time waster trying to search for that one thing.

Not even a thanks? Just a complaint? Hahaha

Mero put plenty of time and effort into that, specifically for you. He made no groups to make it even more simpler, for you.

And perhaps a general, thanks would suffice, to acknowledge his effort.

Thanks Mero. There are groups under <group>

What an amazing sense of entitlement you have.

After much swearing and frustration, I've finally figured out the clipping mask things. Now, I'd like help with putting images on my jumper. Specifically, a Carlton monogram, plus sponsors and the AFL logo. How do I go about that?

Most of us download vectors - brandsoftheworld.com is probably the best source. Though you can also use a .png but the quality won't be anywhere near as good. I'm not sure if you are aware of what a vector is, but this explains it pretty well.

Here is a link to a Carlton monogram. Once you've downloaded it, you can open it in Illustrator and copy+paste the monogram to your jumper file. It's a good idea to create a folder for your vector files too.

Just let us know if I didn't explain it well enough.

Wow. Much thanks. Many grateful.

The only problem I've had with those Carlton vectors is that there's duplicates of points/paths/whatever they're called at the ends of the C's.

Especially when I was following the realistic stitching tutorial. So be careful of that :thumbsu:

The first thing I would do with that Carlton logo is make it as few shapes as possible.
Click on the outer C and you'll see it's made up of two parts, so is the inner C.
If you click on both of the parts, then Pathfinder>Merge it will make them one shape.

It's that simple, eh? :D
Thanks Mero :thumbsu:

Well, I've been using it a while, so to me, yeah, it's pretty simple.
Here's what I knocked up quickly as far as stitching for a Carlton logo on a jumper.

With some time you could make it look a lot better

That looks fantastic! How do you do zig-zag stitching?

On photoshop, I found that using bevel and emboss on the CFC monogram looked the best.

That took me 2 minutes in Illustrator.
In fact, it took more time to open Photoshop and save the zoomed in screen cap and load it to Photobucket than it did to make it.

In short it's create a Stroke around your shape, then it's
Effect>Distort & Transform>Roughen
Then the zigzag is:
Effect>Distort and Transform>Zig Zag
For settings I would go Size 0, Detail 20 on Roughen and Size 1 and 4 Rides per segment on the ZigZag.
Of course, if you find whatever you do doesn't work, Ctrl-Z and try something else.
