it’s especially what Essendon are doing with dodoro ?

He's been involved at the club since the 90's. To say he's inexperienced is simply inaccurate.

How would having played AFL in the 80s improve his ability to manage a list or scout talent in 2020? The game, the players and the organisations have all completely changed since those days.

We also have other staff in the department beyond Dodoro, and they would work in consultation with the coaches to identify the kind of player they're after.

Wasn’t a lot of dodoros early time at Essendon spent on the corporate side he only came across to football operations just before sheedy left it’s just an opinion but I would much rather have a list manager with football background then a corporate one

Chris pelchilon and gubby Alan two of the most successful list managers ever were eighties football people no shame in that

We are not in a position to offer overs like Geelong. Dogs wanted more for Dunkley than what the Cats paid for Cameron, Dodoro did the.professional thing by sticking to our limit.
Why wouldn’t Dodo talk with the Bulldogs and get an idea what they would require for Dunkley? Then if it was never going to happen, don’t contact the kid and his manager and save heartache for supporters of both clubs. Seems like he did all his work on Dunks and not enough on the club that had him under contract for another few more years. Surely he knew we had an academy kid, JUH, so draft pick weren’t going to be too valuable for us this year?

Christ, if this has caused you heartache you need to reassess your priorities.

Disagree, need to get the ok from the player and manager before talking to the club. Price was 2 good 1sts and fair enough, we weren't willing pay.

I don't think any relationships got burnt in this trade request, both between Ess and dogs and between Dunks and either club, sometimes it doesn't work out, I'm sure we'll try again in 12 months if Josh is keen.

I meant the concern that we were going to lose one of our premiership stars. And there is still some left that he is staying but wanted to leave. No fan wants to see their favourite players poached by other clubs.

Yes agree get the ok from player if you want to go that way. But don’t make it public until you think it can happen. If you’re going public to put pressure on, I think is immature. Both player and club look silly if it doesn’t get done.

In a very compromised draft year, I would have given up a 2nd first round pick for a known young star in Dunkley if I was Dodoro (provided The Dogs threw back a 2nd rounder Essendon's way)

Big draft for Dodoro coming up, he really would want to nail most, if not all of the 1st and 2nd picks he has in his sleeve..

It could be argued his future at the EFC is dependant on him having a successful draft.

See no one can argue that he is a good (if extremely annoying and stubborn) trader, it's his drafting of young players in the National Draft with early picks that is the question mark (although to be fair, he was unlucky with Francis who has suffered from heavy off field issues)

Adrian might be a bit stiff here.
Reportedly, this year there is a clear top 5 rated players.
Adrian’s hand starts with 6 ...

Did he bypass Sydney for that reason though? Brisbane were conveniently Top-4 with a well regarded medical team, and he’d spent extended time in Queensland for probably the first time in his life.

Meanwhile Sydney were bottom 4 and have struggled to keep Reid and Franklin on the park.

So the bombers just finished bottom 6... and have just lost 4 best 22 players and replaced them with 10 gamers and 18 year old draft picks.....

And you think josh dunkley is gonna be wow'ed by what shape essendon is in 12 months from now??!!

Haha.

I'm sure josh will be super keen to jump from a top 4/8 team to a bottom 4 bombers.

Adrian has blown the only advantage he had- getting a jump on the rest of the pack.

Give up a 2nd in this draft? Sure.

But every Dogs fan piling in on Dodoro has made it very clear only a future first would have done.

Our future first will be top 5 with or without Dunkley. Would you have done that deal? A top 5 pick in next year's draft for a bloke who isn't in the league's top 25 mids?

You seriously think Josh wouldn't have realised the position we'd be in, in 12 months time, even if we'd nabbed him?

Either he's a moron or he'd have seen the bottom 5 list we have.

Sheedy left in 2007. Dodoro has been at EFC in various roles since the 90s.

Having played football 30 years ago has little relevance to identifying talent today. It's more that the smart AFL players are able to more easily move in to coaching or administrative roles given there's no real pathway for people in to it.

Not so sure about that, his big advantage was a massive wad of cash.
That cash can be used this year to front load more contracts, so they can come back next year with a massive first year offer for Dunkley.

Would think any other club that is interested in him is going to need to be willing to stump up the sort of cash Essendon were offering and then some.

Bottom 5 list eh.
Wonder whether this was the vision sold to Shiel Smith Saad Stringer.
Just as well the club weeded out that dammed Richmond bloke !
Adrian’s gunna need some time to rebuild the list now ...

They would only need to offer something in the same approximate ballpark as essendon.

Every player in the league is willing to trade off a bit of coin for success.

If the equation a year from now is hypothetically either a bottom 4 bombers on 800k longterm or a top 6 collingwood on 700k longterm- dunkley is zero chance of ever being a bomber.

He's already got a Premiership in his back pocket.

EFC is probably his best option for playing as the number one clearance midfielder in the side. If he's wanting to play his preferred position, chase Brownlow votes or AA nominations, then he's pretty much going to be best positioned to do that at Essendon.

It's not like it would be a surprise to him where Essendon finish at the end of 2021, he's not suddenly going to decide to ask for a trade to a side where he'll be forced out of the middle if his primary goal is to be traded to a side that lets him play on-ball.

Who takes responsibility for the FACT that there is not a single quality KPF KPD BBM on the list ...
Ahh yes ... the Richmond bloke Richardson of course ...
C’mon that’s a very shallow post..

It had arguably the best KPF on the list until he broke down and left this year. It has 2 previously All Australian KPD’s on the list (one impacted heavily with injury in 2019/20). It has also not had its prime stopper not play for 2 years with injury (Ambrose). Agree there’s a lack of BBD’s to give balance however they intended to have Stringer in bursts and Heppell (both injured and missing majority of season 2019/20) in this capacity.

Your argument would be stronger if it were more balanced and showed a greater depth of knowledge of what’s transpired at Essendon the last 8 years.

Quality KPF = 0
Quality KPD = 0
Quality BBM = 0

This is a list management issue.
Who is responsible ?

Really done get your post?

Hooker and Hurley are both AA Key Defenders although are undoubtedly on decline.

Not to mention Jordan Ridley won our BNF as a KPD?
