I'm still not seeing it…

I think it fair enough to dig your heals in on required players. Ryder was CONTRACTED and incredibly important. The club was within its rights to make him stay. The deal got done and a compromise was made but I think most Port supporters would be pretty happy with the results whereas most bombers would feel slightly hard done by.
Ryder was mistreated by the club and had his medical records lost, why does Essendon deserve to be over compensated for mistreating a contracted player? If you feel hard done by don't blame Port Adelaide

Isn't the point that, over the long run, every club is in the same position, wanting some players, losing some players, it's not just about the recent players leaving Essendon.

I'm not even convinced Essendon are losing anymore players than other clubs, but perhaps it feels that way given the hard few years you guys have had to endure?
Adelaide have lost far more class than we have - Danger, Davis, Bock, Gunston, Tippett.
Carlton would be next with Betts, Jacobs, Garlett and Waite
Then the Lions with all their kids.
Ryder, Crameri, Carlisle - they're stiff because they come from spots you don't hold a lot of depth.

"Some senior coaches appear, some do not. Some are very vocal, such as Brisbane coach Justin Leppitsch. Others rely on their football chiefs and list managers to push the bluff and counter bluff. Essendon remains the toughest room to work."

Hot off the presses just tonite. The Rucc confirms the obvious again.
Clearly Rucci just made that up to suit the anti Bomber agenda the AFL world is pursuing

We are horrific at trade time. Always ask for overs (and make sure to piss moan about it in the media, thanks Dodoro), always end up accepting unders.

Maybe if they just refused comment on trades they'd fare better. Maybe start looking for role players instead of asking for first round picks.

So you would like a recruiting manager who gets pushed around easily?

........ Really?

The dude has come out worse off from every trade he's ever done because he can't help but shoot his mouth off. He comes out in the papers talking smack and ends up publicly accepting LESS than what he swears blind he won't settle for less than.

He doesn't get pushed around. Doesn't need to be. Quite happy to trip himself up year after year.

It's embarrassing. I'd prefer someone with some dignity and respect.

Oh shit that add is old lol.

Whenever I looked at this thread (or the carlisle thread), all I can see when I see dodoro's name was that guy saying dodoro's name. hahaha. Was a quality add!!!!

He was a required player and Essendon wanted a pick in the thirties and refused Richmond's pick in the 40's… He has averaged 22 games a year for the 5 years since. Do you think a pick in the 40's is fair for a best 22 player?
If that's the way you think, then you're too delusional to reason with. There are at least 5 reasons why your point of view is wrong, and I hope nobody wastes their time explaining why.

I remember Connolly on radio earlier in the year talking about this, and stating that Essendon had never gotten out of the mentality that they have to win a trade, whereas most clubs that get regular trades done (WC, Geelong, Hawthorn) always look to strike a deal that benefits both sides.

No idea if this was just his opinion or from his media knowledge.

It's also an amazing coincidence when we look at the teams that most frequently contend over the last 25 years

Grand Final Appearances (Bolded are Premierships)

Michelangelo Rucci - adelaidenow

An opinion piece from a complete dolt who's opinion is mocked regularly. :rainbow:

If Houli was a required player then how come he only played 26 games for the club in his four seasons(and five in his last season)? You obviously didn't rate him, cause he hardly played. A pick in the 40's was more than fair for someone who wasn't in your best 22.

This thread is hilarious, the commitment you Essendon guys show to your club is entertaining if nothing else

Oh boy, a committed supporting base, that's the worst thing a club can have.

You can add Houli, Monfries and Melksham to your list.

Actually, the club tried hard to keep him but he had already made a commitment to Richmond and he had struggled with persistent groin injuries that required surgery early on. In a way, similar to Freeman from Collingwood.

Why do my fellow fans continue to bring this up.

It is obvious to anyone with a brain that we have been hard to deal with.
