Adzy's 2017 Phantom Draft

I'd rather go after some pure outside class personally, not sure defenders are our absolute number 1 priority. We might take one but I'd rather take mids in this draft.
Lochie O'Brien should be available at 14, I know I've gone too early with Brisbane at 12

He's one I hope we are thinking of. Be very interesting to see how we structure our draft. If we went a defender I'd rather the one that you gave Hawthorn (one pick later)

Absolutely love your selections for us Adzy's, Dow, Bonar, O'Brien and Worpel.:thumbsu:

The mail lately is we will go LDU at pick 1 but Dow would be great as well.

Thanks matey :thumbsu: Where are the LDU rumours coming from? Personally I rate LDU higher so it wouldn't surprise me if they went for him but I've just been following the lip that they are very into Dow

A few of the more respected posters on the Lions board re insider stuff.

Don't mind the Brayshaw pick at all for the Dockers, especially the two way running. Has connections back to WA which is also a plus. Seems to have a decent combination of bash and crash with am attacking mindset. Nice. My preference is still Fogarty but it is all a bit of a raffle.

Although I understand the reasoning, and don't mind the prospects of Hayes and Allen, it kind of feels underwhelming. Wouldn't mind taking Balta as the pick 15, kind of a surprise packet who I feel could flourish under Richmond's current /coaches anywhere on the ground.

If I were a Tigers fan I would probably be a bit underwhelmed too I won't lie but I think they're both good types for your side. I see Hayes as a must-get if available for the Tigers personally for his potential to be a gun ruck and key forward which I think the side could well use. Oscar Allen is a versatile tall who could develop anywhere around the ground and could well be the surprise packet of 2017 in my eyes. I think Balta, L.Fogarty, Ling and O'Brien will all apeal at Richmond's pick and could definitely be selected. Brander could slide to your pick also, and make an excellent support option for Jack Riewoldt.

Interesting you have Taylor going to the Dees. I would have thought an outside mid would be higher on their priorities.

They definitely need some outside class but I wasn't too happy with the options at the pick. Petruccelle if available would be a pretty good fit for Melbourne. They might like Jackson Ross or even a Jackson Edwards bid at that point. Murphy's also pretty versatile who I had them selecting at 31 and I don't think it'd be too far-fetched to suggest he could be a midfielder.

Key forwards kicked bags against them all year, hence the Sam Taylor selection. A key defender should still be on their shopping list.

A few puzzling picks that really dont suit clubs needs

#13 - West Coast - Brander
West Coast are desperate for mids and inside mids is where they should be concentrating , Doubt they would be looking at a KPP at #13

#16 Western Bulldogs - Balta ? If anything outside mids would be priority for the Doggies
Really cant see them taking Balta here

#25 Richmond - Why would tigers take Naish with no bid ?

Not easy to pick midfielders when there are no inspiring ones on offer. Clark was the last top tier mid for me and I have Adelaide pipping him at 12. Brander fits a need at West Coast - they're thin for talls and he could develop either end, more ideally forward for them as a future JJK successor.

Western Bulldogs are interesting. Matthew Ling could be one they are looking at but I think a player like Balta swinging across half-back and linking up through the midfield could be of great use to them.

North Melbourne bid on Naish at 23. I don't like changing the draft order like it does on draft night because it causes confusion for readers and sometimes myself. I'm too lazy to calculate the points and such.

And they're addressing that by getting a gun intercept defender to help cut off attacks. Also they've got time on their side with O Mac and if T Mac plays defence it'll bolster that immensely.

I agree with the Brander assessment but Balta is a good pick for the Dogs at that range. There was also a bid on Naish at 23.

Enjoyed reading your work and perspective. I also think Higgins is a terrific player, although for Fremantle I would have preferred almost anyone else in your top 15.

We are a short time frame away from subtracting Mundy from our playing list, and of course we minus-ed Pavlich last year. My mathematics adds those two players together and comes up with Fogarty as the answer.

Dockers - (Mundy + Pavlich) = Fogarty

I watched a lot of fogarty both at 18's and league this year being a Glenelg player, he is more of a mid size forward/ mid will never play like Pavlich or mundy will not take enough overhead marks, he doesnt get off the ground, his strength is that his strenght a lot of footy smarts. Will never be an aerialist but great a fending off and making space and breaking clear

Fogarty is the hardest to find a comparison for in my eyes - there really isn't anyone like him in the AFL already. Some have suggested Jake Stringer which is probably the closest you can get.

100% right call Fogarty is a stringer type huge amount of ability but how much stamina

Very few rate Hayes like you do.We know he needs to build his endurance and tank, but the kid is so agile and good below his knees and moves well.Takes a nice grab to.
