The issue with this logic is that what if someone in our top 7 slips to 10, but not 14.

At our club we don't have enough talent. You don't miss the finals 4 out of 5 years if you have too much talent.

Somehow we have actually found a way to reduce our chance at getting the best top end talent (going from 10 - 14) in an effort to just get a pick upgrade late in the draft. Its an absolute disaster and makes absolutely no sense.

I suppose it depends on how far away you think we are.

Clearly, Noble and Walsh think we don't require a full rebuild.

Pick the best south aussie that is Available at pick 14... then we wont have to worry for 8 years (if hes any good)

The Cheney/Lowden trade I like. The swap of draft picks, not so much, but I'm at least going to wait and see what transpires as a result of it.

Of course it doesn't. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever no matter how they try and justify it. But anyway, stop being so negative and realistic.

Even by our standards a bizarre trade.

AFC haven't thought that since inception.

We are always a tweak away from finals

at least now grigg ,lyons ,mattt crouch etc will get a crack crouch should of played all year ffs

Has to be L.Thompson that gets chopped, his attack on the footy late last year was pitiful. And for the record Martin is currently 25, despite the fact he turns 27 at some point in the future.
CEY should be in trouble, walsh has already stated he wants players with good disposal.

Down-trading the first round pick probably tells us they know Durdin is going to be gone by pick # 10 (as most phantom drafts predict). We will know this for sure on draft day.

And they must know the first rounder they have their eye on is not likely to be taken before 14.

I'm guessing it is a South Australian they are looking to take at 14.

I seriously doubt that and I reckon there's every chance Goddard may be gone by then too, starting to think it may be Liam Duggan as I reckon that's about his range unless a club specifically targets him.

With Davis, Aish and the Cameron all coming out of contract next year, this could be a year long strategic plan to securing one of them and not spending the salary cap dollars this year coupled with securing Danger, Sloane and Tex.

Who was it that originally raised the swap of picks with geelong? Did Christensen leaving change things or it seems 21 never on table? Good inside info either way as it was along the lines of what you stated.

It does make sense, not saying it was the right move, but they can reasonably justify the decision. Gets the team back into the 2nd round, which will be good. It could be a great move if they get someone really good at 35, it could suck if someone really good goes at 10. Will have to wait and see.

It's not stupid if there is talent we want to take in the 2nd round that won't be there in the 3rd.

Pleased that we've added a little depth in areas of need. And if you're going to take players from any reserves team it may as well be from the premiers.

Still, the trade period has reconfirmed that we're minor players in the competition as it stands.

Depth?

Who knows how Cheney will go? He has not played more than 10 games in a season since his debut season with Melbourne in 2009. There is a massive difference in him needing to fill in at 10th place Adelaide than needing to plug a hole in well drilled, we don't turn the ball over, 3 grand finals in 3 years Hawthorn.

In 6 years on AFL lists - he has not made himself a best 22 player. He was not a highly talented junior either. His entire job at Hawthorn was to fill a gap in a well oiled machine and not completely shit the bed. He has shown nothing that he can be a longterm AFL footballer.

I don't hate the Lowden pickup. 23 and the right size. Better than having Graham still here i guess.

why couldnt the draft be oct 27th... Nov 27th! thats like 5 weeks away :/
Pick 14- Outside mid with superior pace
Pick 35- Defender/Mid
pick 43-Tall defender
pick 59- Project Ruckman
