We have 4x live selections. We need:
1. KPP Defender
2. Outside Midfielder
3. Ruckman
4. ???

I think we need to draft a KPP forward as well, but that can possibly wait until next year. Ideally I'd like to see multiple KPP defenders, multiple outside mids and multiple ruckmen drafted, but we only have 4 positions available.

The rookie draft is the place for rucks and key defenders.
Cox, Sandilands and Jacobs
Rutten, Bock and Bassett
Just examples.

A kpp defender & outside midfielder are a must. I would be looking for a kpp forward or versatile type too. Not so fussed with the 4th player as we then need a bit of everything - perhaps a mid size utility who can play either end given I have my doubts on Shaw making it & now doubt on Otten.

I would use the rookie draft to get a developing ruckman & a ready made kpp defender given our lack of depth to cover injury.

Tom Read Sturt FC will almost certainly be available with our 3rd pick or even a rookie pick unless the Powa or another interstate club are specifically targeting a development ruck/forward and he fits categories 3 & 4 admirably. Liked the look of him in one of the U18's championship games where he played predominately at full forward, strong overhead and for a 200cm lad is a surprisingly good and accurate kick. Very bullish about this kid being a very good player with time and natural development.

Yes, I hope we can pick up Tom with our first rookie pick.
Looks like he could develop into that handy ruck/forward position that we really need.
And Kory Beard with our second rookie pick would give us more cover down back.
Hoping we get Durdin also. We need to load up on the big fella's this draft imo

Yeah that's a good mix. We definitely need to start filling our key position stocks at both ends. People speak about our lack of key defenders but we lack forwards just as much.
Key defenders: Talia, Hartigan, Siggins.
Key Forwards: Walker, Jenkins, Podsiadly.
Injuries at either end will be a disaster.

Skilful half back with elite left leg, they will not draft a ruck after getting Lowden. We ****ed up last year by not drafting Norths Brown and going to Knight instead.

In Walsh's first interview he was asked about getting a ruck in the trade period and he said we would trade for one and also take one in the rookie draft. We need to draft for the future as well as next season the only young talent we really have are inside mids.

Another example of where we miss out......

Pretty lazy Victorian guessing for Adelaide..." they're Adelaide so they'll give up needs based players to draft SA boys" I'm surprised they don't have Brisbane and Gold Coast passing from round 2 because there are no Qld boys left.

Douchebags

There's been ton of mock drafts like that. Seen a few that have us taking inside midfielders with the first two picks. Only reason I can see is they're from SA.

I reckon you should hold off on that claim for another couple of years at least... i wouldn't be overly surprised to see Knight debut next season.

This is the main reason I like Hugh Goddard. Has the ability to go forward if required.

Here is the way I think we will go:
Pick 14: Outside mid Left footer with a bit of pace and elite endurance
Pick 35: Key defender. 190+ cm agile, long arms.
Pick 43: Outside midfielder. Speculative pick based on speed, speed, speed
Pick 59: Mid sized defender or midfielder.

Rookie picks:
1. Kory Beard. Experienced Key defender. Right age bracket and provides good backup. Will do well enough if needed.
2. Ruckman. Project player. 200+ cm.
3. Speculative pick based on speed.
4. Midfielder based on endurance.

Not 100% certain on how many picks we will use, but I'd go something like this.

Seriously, who gives a sh!t?

If he's available at our pick we take him.

I guess it's worrying that he'll jump ship first chance he gets.

Bet he didn't mind Andrew McLeod either. Just a throw away line.
No doubt he will be happy to be drafted. Spent a week at the Kangas.
Eagles are into him as well. We could take him.
He's one that could make an impact in their first season, that's what I like, and the pace.

I have never understood the fascination with with wanting to draft players based on what impact they will have in their first year.

Who would you rather have? Rhys Palmer, who won the rising star in his first year, or Danger who took a couple of years to get going?

Drafting should be about what's best for you in three to five years time, not the next season.
