Went in and watched a VFL game between the Ballarat Roosters and Bendigo Gold at Eureka Stadium in Ballarat today, the one player that really impressed me was a Roosters youngster called Nick Rippon, small forward, midfielder, an absolute ball magnet with exceptional skills/disposal/tackling. Talking to some of the Roosters fans who hold him in very high regard he's been killing it every week in the VFL and he's hoping to get drafted this year after missing out last year, like his former Ballarat Rebels teammate Matt Crouch he made the 2012 TAC Team of the year and also won the Rebels 2012 P.O.Y. Award beating Matt. Well worth a look in the draft or even the rookie draft IMO.

This got me interested so I checked out the Rebels website, by hell they've produced some quality AFL players over the years that also made the TAC players of the year teams. Oh and a bloke called Adam Goodes!!

Given Laird has struggled to get back into defence with the emergence of mj & Brown doing the lock down role, would we consider trading him... Particularly as I can see vb returning on a hbf next year? Just putting it out there.

Should trade Lyons as needs to be given a decent go. Plenty of sides are short of inside midfielders... & we have m crouch as backup til thommo retires.

Time to trade/delist Mckernan & Graham needs to go... & agree with posts above about chasing someone like gorringe, hannath or Currie. Time to refresh our ruck stocks.
I'd be more inclined to trade MJ he has currency at present and im still not convinced that this year is going to be the norm

May depend on the interest in either player. Mj has advantage of launching attacks. Need at least 2 good ball users by foot in defence.

I think we have players who can move up into the role. Rat has been doing it pretty well.

If we could sell Jaensch as best 21 player who finished top 10-12 in B&F and net a good second round pick then wow - pull that trigger.

I've liked his season but he's expendable and this is the copy book - sell high scenario

Someone I'd really like us to take a look at is Mark Whiley from GWS. Some of you might not know who he is...he's one of those depth players there who fly under the radar.

I don't think he's internally rated all that highly and I get why, they've got a lot of players like him. But I like him, and with the Giants needing to cut their list he's probably not going to cost anything more than a 4th or 5th.

Whiley's a 6'3 midfielder/defender. Starting off as a mid sized rebounding defender, his footskills aren't great and as such he never really built a name for himself. However now he's moved into the midfield and this is where I like him. His size is excellent for a modern day mid and his clearance work and strength around the stoppages is excellent. On the outside he's able to receive and run and in general he's a high level ball winner and accumulator of possessions. Defensively he excels with him being a high level volume tackler and a bloke whose tackles stick - something we desperately need. What I really like though is he can tag to a high level. He's got the athleticism and work rate to go with nearly anyone and is a hard worker. Last year as a 20 year old he played on

Daniel Rich - 20 touches/2 goals
1 half on Isaac Smith - 8 touches,
1 half on Grant Birchall, 4 touches
Dyson Heppell - 23 touches and completely shut down his influence
Scott Pendlebury - 25 touches/2 marks - completely quelled his influence
Nat Fyfe - 19 touches/2 goals
Gary Ablett - 19 touches in 3 qtrs
Only real lapses were letting Nathan Jones get 29 touches and Harley Bennell getting on top of him for a quarter

Now I reckon he's got the physical skills and attributes to be a far better tagger than what we've already got in Kerridge. Not only that but he's far better around the stoppages being a genuine stoppage player offensively too. It'd free up Kerridge to play his game which really is quite good as well.

Posted this in on the doggies board as well, Matthew Talia is interested in a move to Adelaide to join his brother. Daniel is loving the lifestyle, the culture and professionalism of the Crows; they have spoken to him a few times. What is the interest like from you guys? Time might be perfect with Truck retiring. Richmond also interested in him too.

We need a KPD, but if he's not getting a game with the Dogs, is it the Dogs or him? If he didn't cost us a lot I'm sure we'd be interested.

He's unaccountable. Likes to run off and rebound but he's a liability. Don't think he's an upgrade on Thompson, Otten or Talia and would just be another fringe standard KPD.
Well there aren't many nathan bocks going around who can attack and defend. The critism on here is that our defence doesn't offer any attack. If we get michael, Otten can shift to centre half back. His defence side would also improve training with his brother

I raised interest in Michael Talia on here a week or so ago after hearing from a mate that is a rabid Doggies club supporter and sponsor and attends all their social events that he had heard Michael was not overly happy and has had some "issues" there with McCartney. I'm sure he said he was contracted to the end of next season though so we'd need to trade to get him. I'm keen after seeing some of his games last year where he was quite impressive including earning a rising star nomination.

I don't disagree.

Imo, we should be trading players who we have an excess at decent value of or who are stale at afc ... & bring in players of need to rebalance the squad.

May mean making "unpopular" decisions like the Vince trade last year.

M Talia for mckernan?

They could do with a forward/ruckman type.

Agree. I would add that his kicking skills are of an even worse standard than anyone currently in our 22... which is quite amazing if you think about it!

Today i went to Richmond oval (City Mazda ) and saw two players that deserve a crack at AFL football.
Zane Kirkwood from Sturt will win the Magarey medal and is a ball magnet who was my best on ground. I don't see him every week but when I get the chance to he is very impressive. Not tall but a hard worker and a game changer.

I've written about this kid before and some don't agree but he oozes class; Jonno Beech from Westies.
Why this kid has never been looked at is a travesty. He is 6 foot plus who creates matchup problems for any team (really good size for a flanker).
He never stops working, can play both ends of the ground, gets thrown into the middle and takes more contested overhead marks than any forward his size that I know.
This kid is simply a balanced footballer of the highest order.
Would he be good enough to make the next step? Well I watch him every week and I have to say yes?
He has just been doing it for so long, he is our 'Mr Consistent.'
Kicked 4 of our 9 goals as a half forward flanker/midfielder today and always looked dangerous. Not flash, not super quick but always effective. Took 9 marks from his flank, just a great game from an overlooked player.
There isn't a better swing man in the SANFL than Beech, how he has never got on a rookie list is beyond me.
Pick him up for nothing and he would leap frog over 10 -15 players already on our list.
I'm a fan.
