If Danger leaves we loose. He is one of the most exciting players in the game and a future captain of our club.

He won't leave for money, in fact I don't think he will leave at all. He has always said he is loyal and it's never about money. I think the whole "Ill only sign if the club is going in the right direction" call was just a leader trying to keep the club on track.
I agree, its all well and good to say "I won't leave for money, I want success" but you're basically a mercenary at that point anyway.

I'm hoping Danger is of the same pedigree as Cooney, Riewoldt, Pavlich and many many others and understands that being a good old fashioned clubman is not a failed career or any less respectful than any player with a premiership next to their name.

I know the game is trending towards a "franchise" style sport where players hop between clubs every three or four years but I will be deeply and bitterly disappointed if that becomes the norm.

Didn't we just play GWS?

Anyone play yesterday who didn't play v us? Plowman?
Jono O'Rourke
Lachie Plowman
Tom Boyd
Josh Hunt

O'Rourke is the obvious one though because he's uncontracted.

EDIT: Actually all but Tom Boyd are out of contract at the end of the year.

EDIT AGAIN: All are Victorian.

He plays for GWS, and is a different person to George Horlin Smith.
I wonder if this George Hoskin-Elliott is any relation?

Unlikely sir, they spell and pronounce their names differently.

I'm more interested in what it means exactly rather than just throwing names as examples
What do you mean? It's footballers whose strengths aren't related to vertical leap, size advantages, sprint results, athleticism etc, not converted from other sports, possess good foot and handball skills, read the play

Fair enough.

Would seem to me then that the vast majority of AFL players are pure footballers

A pure footballer is someone with no end of obvious shortcomings but a positive rating of that player can still be justified by tagging them as a "pure" footballer. Presumably not cut with inferior netballer DNA
Don't let your cynicism get in the way of a good story eh?

IMO a "pure footballer" is someone who:
- knows how to find the footy
- makes good decisions
- doesn't panic under pressure
- has clean hands
- always seems to be a step ahead of the play in terms of anticipating ball and player movement.
