A pay cut & a 2nd round pick.

Maybe. Not a priority. Too similar to Talia
i personally dont think hes similar to talia at all. talia is more a through and through defender with not many attacking qualities but awesome defensively. davis is more versatile and has great smarts and a much better kick. i think they would be awesome together!

I don't agree. Talia Davis Brown Laird could hold our back line together for the next 10 years. Just add 2-3 running defenders like Hendo and Smith and we're set.

I'd definitely give a first round pick for him. He's only 23.
24 this year tho so 6 years older than this draft. can we really afford to not have a first round draft pick AGAIN? if we hadnt had sanctions would be all for it. would rather a player and 2nd round. if davis really pushed GWS to go back and said if not hell wait out for another year and go for nothing we could get a great deal. unlikely to happen from the captain of a club though. lyons + 2nd round for davis? would not mind it

Phil Davis and Danger are good buds, this would be a very good get guys. After watching the Footy Show boys fawn over Danger on Thursday night I started to worry about us re-signing him. I would prefer the club to do everything in it's power to keep our first round pick but if it came to the crunch I would essentially say we'd be giving up a first-rounder for Davis and Danger. That's something I am comfortable with the club doing; our backline needs that other cool-head/leader back there once Truck is done.

2nd rounder and an inside mid for Davis. That would actually be a good deal, he'd be an excellent 2nd KPD.
lyons or grigg plus second rounder ? not sure if either would ever get a game at GWS with their youngsters tho... GWS would be looking for experience and experience only in return OR our first round. thing is we dont have any experience and cant sell thompson (too old and a loyal servant), reilly (just such a bad player) or our next most experienced douglas because WE NEED THE EXPERIENCE TOO aha

I'm always surprised at how little value some place on high quality KPD. I see suggestions that its simply a matter of scouring the state leagues and getting one on the rookie list.

We have the 2 options in our squad - Talia a first rounder, Hartigan/Thompson rookies. I know who I prefer.

While the game continues place such a high value on KPF it is critical that teams also value the KPD to defend them. The future shows no signs of the lessening of KPF stocks so defence, whilst not the sexy position, needs attention.

I think Hawthorn exposed our lack of class in defence by taking Talia away from key contests - we need to address this before it becomes the norm.

No issues with trading in Davis

In all seriousness I dont think we can afford to give up our first round pick this season.

Given the loss of draft picks previously, we badly need to get some more 18 year old talent through the door to set up for the future.
Its hilarious to watch the people that want us to blindly play the kids be the same people that want us to trade our first round pick every blo0dy season.
Can't like this enough. We have spent too long trying to get back into the first round due to the incompetence and backstabbing of our administration and an ex-player. We should not give it up unless we are getting gold.

Phil or another tall defender could be good but not for our first round draft pick.

As many have said I would love Phil back at the club however not for our first rounder. Fix another pressing need with that like outside mid and trade our second with a senior player like Otto for Davis. If they dont want it fine but not the first rounder.

Whats peoples thoughts on Sam Rowe? He's uncontracted at the end of 2014 and has looked good since moving into defence. I read on twitter that he and Carlton are miles apart on his contract status

I agree with your post, but it is harder to determine talented defenders then forwards or mids. Rutten, Bock and Bassett all came through the rookie system for us.

Houston Rockets and CM Punk.
Sorry to intrude , not here to troll. But you 99.9% rule a line through swans as a potential destination for danger. Without one of our gun mids leaving, there is no room for him in the cap, besides I think the club will be busy looking at getting some depth into our kpd stocks. I for one would be extremely surprised if danger left the crows , he just seems like a one club player
Yeah I agree 100% it's not like your midfield at present lacks any star power, but how confident were you this time last year of landing Buddy?
Think this off-season will have a huge impact into Danger's decision.

Plus I think with everybody on here sick of the 'mediocrity', using a draft pick to ensure our future is balanced with our present, rather than putting it all on the table right now and attacking for a premiership smacks of mediocrity.

I prefer the all or nothing approach. I think we have the squad to win a flag, but you never know when a key position defender as good as Davis will come around again

Smith Davis Henderson

Yes Please!
thompson would be a great third forward. if hartigan progresses and reaches his huge potential davis could even become third defender seeing as hes so versatile and be more of a playmaking key defender. could be:

Henderson Davis Smith
Brown Talia Hartigan

I think Thompson will get the pocket position due to him being able to go on talls and smalls

Would you do it for our first round pick?
Thats what it would cost...

mm that could work either way davis would take our defence from being very average to one of the top defences in the league and fill a huge gap in the list. his composure and vision would be invaluable out of defence. might be able to get him at a decent price due to his injures and lack of playing time. suurely he wont be asking for his GWS salary?

You honestly think Phil Davis is the difference between an average defence and a top defence?
