So, what's the current groupthink here? Should our first pick be a fast outside mid, a tall forward/KP, or best available?

I've wanted a fast outside mid all year but I'm starting to lean towards a tall forward.

If Lycett decided to come home he would have less competition for the number 1 ruck spot here than at Port Adelaide which would help us.
Na like others have said he'd be behind Lobbe and Jacobs at both clubs. But at Port he'd play as a forward/2nd ruck. They only have Schultz & Westhoff up forward.

Now that Gibbs is gone I can't see anyone other than Frawley / Higgins worth going after. Shaun Higgins is well worth pursuing - decent amount of experience and we all saw the potential he had as a youngster that hasn't yet been fulfilled. Definitely worth a punt.

Fast outside mid is our most pressing need.

Also I think we have a much greater need for a KPD than a KPF.
Tend to not draft defenders high though, draft a few, develop and find the one to fill the gap left by rutten.

Obviously Hartigan in the short term, but you always need a backup or a guy on his heels to put the pressure on.

In saying that they will have Harvey and Shaw coming into the senior side in the next couple of seasons. With Redden and their medium forwards that will be a hard forward line to get into.

he probably won't be top 5 and he is likely to be between 10 - 2- so very much in our range, you maybe getting him confused with Pickett
Ive seen a few peoples mock drafts (people that generally are on top of this stuff) and a lot of them have him going top 5.

Wouldnt mind getting him (although I would probably prefer Pickett)

We have done well with defenders through the rookie draft. Bock, Rutten and now Hartigan. I agree that another young key defender would be comforting.

I reckon early this year or late last year he certainly was top 5, but some doubt has crept in on his ball use.

I think the whole issue is that Jenkins isn't performing in the ruck. That is why he wasn't selected the first few rounds.
No, it's not. He missed the first few rounds because he was severely underdone, having missed the end of 2013 and most of the pre-season with a leg injury. This resulted in him playing very poorly in the MMC, which in turn resulted in him being omitted from the first couple of rounds of the H&A season.

We need spread and classy kicking so fast outside mid pls. Will lose my shit if we draft another clearance machine who can't kick or spread.

No doubt about Higgins ability wise, however his career has never really gone anywhere due to consistently being injured/injury prone, approach with extreme caution. See Scott Gumbleton.
