I agree with Sanders on this one, you'd wanna be sure you got it right either way.

Danger comes out today and says he's signed a 3-4 year contract with the AFC ... I'm wrapped.

If he gets us 3 picks in the first round because he wants to head back to Melbourne, also happy.

If we don't do the deal and Danger screws us - heads will roll.
the club are fully aware that he wants to stay, he wont be traded

I'm happy with Danger staying, in fact if we turn down a deal like the one being bandied about ... the club is putting a lot of faith in him.

I expect him to repay that type of faith - he seems to be that sort of guy.

Danger would be about making a splash, making melbourne relevant. Not about his onfield contribution. It would all be about strategy

Which makes an abnormal price justifiable
Works both ways. If we trade him, we're trading away our relevance IMO. Makes turning a 'good' trade down justifiable.

Another week, another few pages of Dangerfield trade nonsense. How many times does the club, the manager, and the player have to say it's not happening before we all agree that it's NOT.

Patrick does not have to come out today and say he's signed a contract extension. He's under no obligation to do so. I would fully expect him to go through the pre-season and at least the first 5-8 rounds of the season before he either commits, or turns his back. Contract negotiations take time. They're not going to happen in the space of one weekend just because some jock on Melbourne radio wants to kickstart the week off with some juicy gossip.

Let's focus on the big fish we're trying to trade for instead. Cheney and McDonough! Get it done AFC.

I hope he stays and I mean for good. we are salivating (me included) over 3 x high draft picks without considering the cost of losing a franchise player such as Danger.

Sadly this is the only way we get a look at high quality - by giving up high quality.

Top clubs don't consider trading away real talent, but they still attract it, and when the talent nominates their club they get what they want.

FA is alive and well regardless of years service. Richly talented kids see out 1 contract and walk to their club of choice - if your not a destination club, then you are locked into the scenario of pawning your best property.

If you are you just pinch stars (current or future) and use a draft pick

His signature is the only thing that carries any meaning

Norwood, Redbacks.
So what ruckmen are the Crows looking at then if they miss Giles? Heard they're not interested in Lowden, Baulderstone and Gorringe now. Who's left?
What about Jonathon Griff ? We traded him to Freo on compassionate grounds for almost nothing. If he wanted to return it would cost less than that. Only trouble with him was he enjoyed the life at Centrals more than at the Crows. Maybe a changed environment at the Crows might lure him back. Would be a good backup.

Jay Clarke on SEN saying Melbourne back in talks with Adelaide about Trading for Dangerfield apparently going to offer picks 2,3 & 12 (from the Trengove trade which is a done deal apparently)

Also said Melbourne looking to move Watts & Toumpus
Take it and run, leaves us with no crap ongoing next season, if he wanted to commit he could have.

It's all good until Dangerfield says "yeah I'm not going to Melbourne and you can now shove that contract"
This is my only concern over it, that trade it massive win for us, if we say, 'hey. we are going to trade you to Melbourne, he will have an exit statement right there, if we accept this deal Danger is gone no matter what..

Interesting. The picks the Dees have offered would make it attractive for us. I understand that Dangers last years wage is low due to been paid forward heavly with Tippo leaving so breaking his final year would mean more cash. Melbourne can offer him way more money than we can. Would easily be able to pay 1.2-1.5 a year for 5 years. Melbourne has a saviour syndrome and also getting Danger would most likely be the biggest thing to happen to their club in a long long time. Think Judd to Carlton.
And who knows what Walsh has said about keeping Danger. We all know PAP think he is a big head.

I can't wait till Friday, so we can stop talking about Cameron.......
I can't see it happening.

Why would we stop talking about Cameron once he comes to the club? Surely we'll talk a whole lot more about him when that happens? :p

It's not often I agree with Rooch but there is one thing he is bang on the money about. When we adopted FA based on the US sports, we neglected a key counter balance for clubs, the right to dictate a trade - even if restricted only to the year prior to FA.

For all we know Dangers management may have told us he has no intention of staying past next year, but that he will be exercising his right to play out his contract and assess the FA auction which will occur between likely suitors Hawks and cats.

If that's the case then Melb could be offering half their list and it would not matter - we would still be restricted to releasing a statement that he is not for trade.

AFC may well be hamstrung in this scenario, despite "eyeballing" him and getting no commitment

I agree with most of this, but it's still in his best interests to request a trade now than play out the year to exercise FA rights. We could match any offer (I think we would if it came to that) and then if he still wants go somewhere else, he'd be the exact same position as he's in now.

Melb in the first instance needs to make their pitch to Danger attractive, only then Danger says he wants a trade we start talking trade currency otherwise we risk being seen shopping Danger around which could blow up in our face

Bingo. Without this, the competition just becomes "destination" and "feeder" clubs.
