Sure no doubt - I just don't think that's what his manager would advise.

Then also it's - go now to Melb, or wait a year and walk to Haw/gee

No brainer
What hasn't been tested yet is, what happens if we match the offer but he decides he wants to go to say Geelong anyway - would they remove the original offer from the table and put forward a reduced one?

Maybe teams will be prepared to give up a chunk of salary cap for a free agent but not that plus their future (in terms of draft picks and/or quality youngsters)?

2, 3, 12 if a real offer really can't be turned down, I don't care how good he is.

The Club is hamstrung tho' by this ongoing issue of players needing to approve any trade. As other posters have said, the rule needs to be tweaked to allow the bottom Clubs to have a shot in making trades a Club only decision, otherwise Melbourne stay bottom forever by developing guys like Frawley only to have him pick the Premier at FA time.

What will happen when all of GC & then GWS's initial draft picks hit 8 years and they all swan off to top 4 clubs, which could still be Hawthorn, Geelong et al ? That is when the AFL will wise up.

To be honest I'm not precisely certain of how it's structured - I'm sure someone here would be.

The bottom line is that a club can inform a player that they have been traded.

I think all we need is something in the year before FA. Then if a club made a massive trade offer and the player is not committing then pack your bags
Once you sign a contract in the NBA thats the contract your on for the life of it eg you sign for $ 4Mil for 4 years you cant leave to another club and get more money, you can however sign a contract extention which then enables you to alter what you are paid

I think the NBA model is the best in the world when it comes to FA and IMO is the same model we should adopt

How does Cheney address a need? The top clubs target players that fill a need. Until we become a club that does this we are not going to become a top club. We have to stop taking other clubs unwanted players because they're cheap. Cheney may well be a better 3rd tall option than the other 3 or 4 that we have but until we move them on, I can't see the point of having yet another player compete for a position that we have somewhat covered. We can't become premiers until we target players good enough to play in it.

Dont mess with me and come onto our board and tease me! Whats a Cro-mo?:p
Grotto you need to do more reading and less writing, the legend of Cro-Mo is almost raised in every second thread!

He was perma banned before either of us joined bf, but if you pay close attention you'll soon discover that for lovers and haters alike, the scars he left behind on this board still run deep...

I won't say anymore, I'll let you discover for yourself the "Legend of Cro-Mo".

The last 4 drafts have been compromised drafts though.
Which is why I went back to 2008 to look at the 2 drafts that weren't 'compromised' and you would have to say three out of six have 'made' it there, but there are still issues with some of them.

How does he not?

We need a cheap, matureish but not elderly 2nd/3rd key defender with proven success

Just like when Hawthorn picked up Stewie Dew, or when Sydney picked up unwanted players like Ted Richards.

Just because a player is surplus at a club doesnt mean theyre not capable.

I mean Sauce Jacobs was a Carlton reject....how did that turn out.

I know that, hence my bit about the Club being hamstrung. Time to change the rules about trading, players have no say. If Danger states that he will play out his contract and not commit, the Club in it's final year before FA should have the right to accept any offer made for him. It protects the Club and it improves the integrity of the competition by allowing lower clubs with something of value (high draft picks) a fair shot at the better players. Or we may as well just accept that Hawthorn will be top 2 for the next 100 years like the EPL has become.

Danger isn't going anywhere - plain and simple.

And if he isn't traded this year, I just can't see him leaving at the end of next. He knows his footy and he would appreciate the sort of deal we could get for him this season, and if he was going to leave at the end of next season - a deal would be done.

Danger - our next captain and brownlow medallist.

You need to look at the full range (2-12 because you can pick any of the players below 3). Here you go.

I don't think it really means much though because you should be looking at what the Crows have picked in recent times because other clubs are renowned for picking spuds early on, or picking talent and not developing them.
