I wouldn't trade Paddy unless he said he was walking; I don't care what the offer is.

Someone able to post the last half a dozen drafts had the players who went at 2/3/12 in them?
Absolutely

I'm on my mobile at the moment or otherwise I'd dedicate some time to having a look back over the last 10 or so drafts. A great site for it is Draft section of http://www.footywire.com

Edit: seems people have already done it! Damn refresh.

You need to look at the full range (2-12 because you can pick any of the players below 3). Here you go.

I don't think it really means much though because you should be looking at what the Crows have picked in recent times because other clubs are renowned for picking spuds early on, or picking talent and not developing them.

Just out of interest what are the bolded players? Are you saying theyre successful ones?

Have to bold jake stringer. He is almost my favourite of the western bulldogs young players. Can genuinely play forward, back or midfield.

How does he not?

We need a cheap, matureish but not elderly 2nd/3rd key defender with proven success
Cheney is a cheap, matureish but not elderly 2nd/3rd key defender with proven success

Just like when Hawthorn picked up Stewie Dew, or when Sydney picked up unwanted players like Ted Richards.

Just because a player is surplus at a club doesnt mean theyre not capable.

I mean Sauce Jacobs was a Carlton reject....how did that turn out.
How is 41 games in 6 years successful?

wont happen, Crows have put up the not for sale sign
We've been adamant about Danger not being up for trade. If we about face it would just 2 faced. We would lose respect. That's what we are after. It wouldn't be ruthless it would be just plain shitty.

Picks 2 and 3 would likely be Brayshaw and a tall (Wright/McCartin/Lever/Durdin). Brayshaw does not fit our needs at all (another inside mid who will never be near Dangerfield standard) and any of the talls are risky picks (there's always an element of risk taking a KPP this high in the draft).

Instead of simply seeing the numbers 2 and 3 and thinking its a good deal, actually look at who we might get with them. The chances of them providing us anything near what Danger does both on and off the field are incredibly low.

We'll look like idiots in 5 years time if we trade Danger.

Yeah I didn't put much thought into it though. Good point, bolded.

We don't trade Danger unless he wants out. We entertain this trade because its a "good deal" without it being 100% with Danger's ok then we lose any right to demand loyalty of him next year.

Was he injured? Didn't play the last 13 games for Hawthorn but he'd be good enough of us? I don't see him as a key defender more like a 3rd tall. I don't see him as having proven success and I'm sure the Hawks wouldn't either. There could be gems at other clubs but they are rare. If we want to be successful, a fringe player at Hawthorn should be a fringe player with us, unless he fits a need and he does not. Let recruit for our needs like the top clubs do.

Once you sign a contract in the NBA thats the contract your on for the life of it eg you sign for $ 4Mil for 4 years you cant leave to another club and get more money, you can however sign a contract extention which then enables you to alter what you are paid

I think the NBA model is the best in the world when it comes to FA and IMO is the same model we should adopt

I agree that all players are now acting as free agents by nominating a club, doesn't seem fair on the clubs at all. Free agency is a reward for long service.

Perhaps a fairer solution would be for players who want to leave to nominate a state (now each state has two teams) to create some competition/bidding.
