God it must be hard for those blokes on Trade Radio... filling up so much dead time. But Tex to WB? Who knew they'd stoop to comedy?

As for Danger - this is what I reckon. We stick fat with Danger, continue to keep him off the table. We need to show him we want him to be a one club player with us.

Next year, if he decides to walk:

a ) he looks like a mercenary
b ) we maintain our integrity as a footy club
c ) he's restricted FA, so we just match any offer then work a trade

What I think will happen: we keep him off the table, he signs a new deal with us by mid 2015, he becomes our next captain in 2016.
this is best result. People are underestimating the impact on other AFC players if we trade danger

Was he injured? Didn't play the last 13 games for Hawthorn but he'd be good enough of us? I don't see him as a key defender more like a 3rd tall. I don't see him as having proven success and I'm sure the Hawks wouldn't either. There could be gems at other clubs but they are rare. If we want to be successful, a fringe player at Hawthorn should be a fringe player with us, unless he fits a need and he does not. Let recruit for our needs like the top clubs do.
Hawthorn have Lake, Gibson, Stratton and Shoenmakers.
They have very very strong key defensive stocks.

Thats like saying Lyons didnt play many games for us so he must be a spud.
Or Tom Mitchell didnt get a game for Sydney so he's not worth looking at.

the problem now is what happens to the half of the team that's already rebuilt I.e. Talia, walker , Sloane etc. You risk loosing them through free agency as they get impatient. We can't keep starting again! We are probably only a handful of players off seriously competing
Actually, we've never "started again". Not once.

Blight cut some old deadwood but he didn't start again and build a team from the draft and trades.

Don't think that will be happening. Crows currently looking to trade pick 10 for 14 & 21 (Geelong).
Actually don't mind this.

By all accounts, there is a big gap after the top 6 draftees.

Then a group of 20 or so players of similar ability.

Pick 10 won't get us 1 of the 6, so may as well get 2 of the next group, or trade 21.

All we have is an elite core at the right age to challenge in a couple of years if we build around them. Trading Danger for a bunch of risk that we won't know about for 5 years would be pretty stupid. If we take a key asset out of our elite core we might as well give up and go into full rebuild mode. Only way you'd even consider it is if he really wanted out and I believe with that much on the table danger is the kind of guy who would shoot straight with you.

Rebuild...not waste. With a new coach, it's understandable. Walsh did it with West Coast and Port, and it worked a treat.
How the he'll are we in rebuild mode?

Rebuilds are for clubs on a downward slide which we are most definitely not.

We will be looking to push for a premiership in the next 3 - 4 years.

Smart trading and drafting is what we need, and that means holding onto our best players!

only take draft picks if you were going to trade some picks for another star and keep the leftovers to draft

Trade picks for a power forward that can pinch hit in the ruck
