So if we bring in Cheney (The only realistic trade we will likely do) does that spell the end for Luke Thompson or Shaw?? or do they see him as additional? Surely we don't need LT of Cheney is coming in as a player in that role, release him to play for any SANFL side that he likes..

Cheney would play that Otten role as the mobile tall.
They seem to rate Shaw.
I reckon LT is done in this case

Don't think that will be happening. Crows currently looking to trade pick 10 for 14 & 21 (Geelong).
This is what trade week should be all about. If we are after a player that we know will be there at 14 (say Goddard) and Geelong are worried that there man will be gone at 14 then this is a real win for both sides. You see this in the NFL all the time. We get the guy we are after and add pick 21 without having to loose say Lyons to get it.

Hope this happens... still want Caleb Daniel and would be happy to use 21 for him.

Another problem for GWS is their crowds. Average home attendances of 9,900 isn't exactly enticing for young players. Especially when many of their mates are playing for clubs that play their home games at the G or Adelaide Oval, etc.

Who would've thought that Western Sydney wasn't a desirable place for fans to travel to?

Head interstate for a crows game. Could go Melbourne, Gold Coast, Brisbane......Western Sydney????

This is why I wish there was Draft Day trades though, so much risk.

Wouldnt have to use 21. He'll still be there with our 3rd rounder i expect.

Picks 2 and 3 would likely be Brayshaw and a tall (Wright/McCartin/Lever/Durdin). Brayshaw does not fit our needs at all (another inside mid who will never be near Dangerfield standard) and any of the talls are risky picks (there's always an element of risk taking a KPP this high in the draft).

Instead of simply seeing the numbers 2 and 3 and thinking its a good deal, actually look at who we might get with them. The chances of them providing us anything near what Danger does both on and off the field are incredibly low.

We'll look like idiots in 5 years time if we trade Danger.
On the money with this analysis. Also note it's a compromised draft, best midfielder and KPF are already locked down through academy & f/s picks.

Let Melb offer this deal to Port for Gray

anyhow, Melb don't even have pick 12 yet.

Wrong. It's in Dangers best interest to hold off until next year.. Every club with salary cap space would be mad not to make an offer and not have to give up players and draft picks...
The only reason why Melbourne is jumping the gun this year is they know Danger will not nominate Melbourne next year as they aren't a glamour club
On the assumption that a) he doesn't want to be here; and b) we'll match any offer (which we will) then his preferred destination team will have to give up something for him next year, and still give up a large portion of their salary cap.

As I said in another post, if we match and he still wants out, I'd be very interested to see if his preferred destination team would still have the same offer on the table once they actually have something to lose. This part of free agency is yet to be tested.

Regardless, I think he wants to stay and will sign early next year, so we won't have to worry about any of this.

I'm hoping this is just another rubbish rumour. We need a KPP not another under sized defender who will be joining his third club. The one occasion that he was tasked to be the key defender he got destroyed by Hawkins who I think kicked eight that game. He would be standing blokes like that every week, I'm just not convinced.
Bite the bullet draft a tall defender who has the height and will grow into his body to tackle these large forwards.
I'm not sure if all these stories Trengove and Cheney are Rucci's fantasies or if there is truth to any of them. I just find it hard that we would be chasing these type with any conviction.

It will be interesting when someone finally matches an offer for a Restricted Free Agent, people are always saying, why would you do that, if he wants to go then let him etc, not worth having... But, whats the difference between that and say Collingwood, Essendon, GWS or Bulldogs keeping, Beams, Ryder, Boyd or Griffen? Nothing..

Will we? One of the interviews Walsh gave last week, he said you don't get success by paying players $1m+ per season and that he wouldn't be looking to do so. He used Geelong as an example of where players take less to achieve group success. Would Patty take a pay cut to stay at Adelaide if Melbourne based clubs are offering $1m+ or would Walsh/AFC change their tune?

Where are you hearing all your info from? Trade week radio or something?
I have a footy Twitter account that follows about 900 footy related accounts so all the rumours and shit gets posted pretty quickly on there without having to listen to trade radio or stuff like that.

Norwood, Redbacks.
Blame Sheedy/Silvagni for that. The thought that they could bring in 20-30 of the best young players and expect them to stay/create success was stupid.
The Dangerfield rumours have been done to death but I have been surprised by the "supporters" who have still continued feeding the trolls by agreeing to such trades to Melbourne for 2,3 and 12 whatever. By even saying that they would consider such trades the Crows risk their club imploding like one Melbourne club.
Imagine a club captain who has been extremely loyal, winning best and fairest awards, playing over 200 games for the club, resisting other clubs' overtures to transfer in previous years because he wanted to be a one club man, representing the club at social occasions and generally displaying loyalty and professionalism. The captain is involved in meetings discussing a perceived problem with the coach and expresses his opinions that sees the coach making changes to his coaching in response to the in house review. Then he hears that he has been offered to the Crows, as well as another loyal Brownlow medal winner, in exchange for Dangerfield. Is it any surprise that he wants out as well as the Brownlow medallist?? The Crows have a number of loyal stars that have remained loyal to the club. Noble must continue to hold firm to keeping Dangerfield in 2015 and keep knocking these offers on the head.
There will be players that will move to get better opportunities, contracts or money.Even Bernie was better off financially by transferring.
As for getting early draft picks and getting champions it seems that the landscape is changing.now that Boyd want out of GWS and other low draft picks wanting to go home etc. You are no longer assured of the long term players like Cooney , Griffen, jonathon Brown who were drafted away from home states and remained loyal through their careers.

if we did trade pick 10 for 14 and 21... what about the following trades:

1. Pick 14 and 50 to GWS for Sheils and Giles

2. Pick 31 to Hawthorn for Schoenmakers (i like this far more than Cheney deal);

3. Lyons to St Kilda for pick 22 (unlikely) or 41 (likely)

We bring in ruckman, elite speed (first round pick) and Tall defender whilse still having pick 21...

If we're willing to turn down offers now, we're likely to be willing to match any offer.

Granted that Dangerfield has an enormous say in the offers that we're currently turning down, but to not even be willing to negotiate means that we're committed.

I've moved for Money before but a few things need to be the case for that to happen, I have also moved for less money, If the money is Significant and it's close to his home, he would likely make the move to a Geelong, to a Melbourne etc, I couldn't see anyone wanting to take a bit more money for a move like that, second, he has to be not enjoying where he is etc to leave, when I left, I was offered a lot more but also I was going where I thought I would enjoy my work, turns out a move isn't always better.. If the environment is right a bit more money won't kove him, he is on enough where I don't reckon $200k or so would be enough to leave, that's only $100k after tax, on his income, plus media deals etc, that's small money in the whole scheme of things.. A player leaving for an extra $200k when he is on $200k, that's massive increase.. All has to be in perspective, Danger leaving cant be about cash (As he has said a lot) as I don't see anyone offering him $400k per year more than us, that would be considered a massive increase I would think..
