When do players need to re-sign by? For those who's contracts expired end of 2014, when is the cut-off date? From memory Lynch and Martin are some first 22 of this season that havent get been offered contracts. Lynch especially is a funny one.

In a piggy bank for when Dangerfield, Walker and Sloane get offers of 900K to 1 million+ thrown at them next year?

I'd think that $1.2 million+ in unused cash would be a overestimation as well.

I also think that a part of it was earmarked to trade in a decent player or big fish to cover our needs better than any of the free agents could.

This probably appears unlikely to happen now, but its not impossible still.

They may have been confident this would happen, and then a player changed their minds.

Not ideal if this is true, but stuff happens, doesn't make the club terrible.

Who thinks there is a big trade waiting in the wings? For any club?

I expect a heap of non-mind-blowing moves myself.
I expect us to get nothing and do nothing.. we are going to go into next year with just jacobs as our ruckman and some 18yr old we pick up in the draft. and we are going to go in without a replacement for truck and we will go with Hartigan and Luke thompson. struggle town.

So we went from landing a big fish or two in Cameron, Giles and Davis to getting Chaney and Louden. If we land anyone at all.

We really are a club on the move.
It is pretty disappointing considering who we've all been talking about, but lets be perfectly clear about this. It is this board and a couple of numpties on radio who have been pushing the Cameron and Davis barrow.

Giles is no big fish. He is a ruckman who barely got a game in the bottom side of the AFL. Fortunately for us, he 'chose' Essendon instead of Adelaide - not because of the sinister reasons involving the AFC foolish posters would have us believe, but because "he feels from a football point of view that his opportunities will be greater at Essendon". - no brainer, considering Sauce would have to be abducted by aliens for Giles to get a game. Luke lowden is a much better prospect IMO.

I don't ever remember anyone from the Crows talking up getting Cameron or Davis, I know Noble said they'd love to get Davis back and would ask the question, but this has never meant they were expecting to real him in. BF and 5AA had a big fluffle over it, but this has never meant we should have expected to get either of them. Which brings us to who we might get. Lowden - we could do a lot worse considering the thin ruck talent available, and Cheney…WHO?? You are right, we might land a guppy or two.

If anyone can find any official evidence of a contract post-2014, I would appreciate it.

I believe we'll rookie a ruckman who can at least be a solid warm body in the case Jacobs goes down. Walsh himself said it at the end of his first interview - we would draft one, and rookie one. I'd imagine a project type pick in the 4th round (or later??) and then rookie a mid-20's state league level or delisted ruck from a club with too many.

Hey Crows.

If the following 9 players were gone before your pick:

Petracca
McCartin
Brayshaw
Wright
Durdin
Lever
Laverde
Moore
Pickett

then

1. Who do you think your club will select?
2. Who do you want your club to select?

Thanks in advance for any responses.
Outside speed, Nakia Cockatoo

At a minimum, by the end of 2015 I would like for us to have found another quality 2nd tall defender, a mid sized "shut down" defender, an outside midfielder and preferably a ruckman/genuine tall forward.

Second tall defended I reckon we are into.

VB should be the shut down defender.

Paddy should be the outside mid.

Our core list is quality, but our depth is non existent.

Trades by year
2010: 20
2011: 31
2012: 28
2013: 27
2014: 4*

It's going to be hard to keep up if we are going to get anywhere near the numbers of previous years by 2pm tomorrow.
Have a feeling we'll cope.

Considering of the 27 last year, only 9 were down prior to the final day, we could still get close.

He said we were talking to cameron and gws, and gws denied on Twitter they were even considering trading him.

He also said we were going to get ben kennedy a ew days later he resigned

He also said we were into Shoenmakers and his comments were just a diversion of some sort
im convinced you're twelve.

Lowden and Downie wouldn't be a bad result for our ruck department.
Kieren Harper should be a target for outside speed and I fill that Kory Beard could be a serviceable player for us. However still leaves our defense thin.

Agree re Kieren Harper - fills a need. If he can get his body right, he will develop quickly

Last year, as bad as they may have been, we had Gussie, JJ, Smack and Ozzie as backup in case Jacobs was injured. At this stage we have JJ and Ozzie.

Neither of these guys are capable of being the main ruck at this stage and so regardless how they fill the position we are in dire need of at least one experienced ruckman ASAP.

Ben Hudson coming out of retirement again?:p

Unfortunately it looks like Harper might be part of the Cooney deal.
I would be ok if we got Lowden and Downie, but would hate to see us paying overs for adding ruck depth to our roster. As has been mentioned we need to keep picks after the ones we have lost over the last few seasons.

Lyons needs to make a decision.

I think the club are trying to replace Martin, but if they don't find a suitable trade, he'll be signed up for a year.
Trading Martin would be one from left-field. It's not something I've seen mentioned before. Wouldn't have much trade value, would he?
