Yeah the only good value picks that I can see in my lot are Curnow, Kelly, Parfitt, Bailey Williams and maybe Mason Wood, now that he's back from injury. The other picks are either bang on or below.

Not the best year of drafting for me. Sam Jacobs in round 2 really stands out

My team rejigged accounting for form/injuries. Games in brackets, out of 20.

B
Luke Hodge (17) - Joel Hamling (17) - Dylan Grimes (19)
HB Liam Duggan (19) - Jackson Trengove (14) - Jarrad McVeigh (16)
C Ed Langdon (19) - Callan Ward (c) (20) - Isaac Smith (20)
HF Dayne Zorko (20) - Jake Stringer (18) - Richard Douglas (15)
F Alex Neal-Bullen (20) - Tom McDonald (15) - Eddie Betts (16)
R Zac Smith (3) - Marcus Bontempelli (17) - David Mundy (20)
I Shaun Burgoyne (13) - Nick Robertson (19) - Kamdyn McIntosh (17) - Jack Bowes (14)

E James Stewart (11) - Tim O'Brien (12) - Sam Gilbert (9) - Jackson Nelson (10)

Injured: Matt Suckling (11) - Dale Morris (9)
Permanent Reserves: Matt Rosa (5) - Daniel Nielson (0)

Pretty happy with the midfield. Ward, Mundy and Bontempelli is a decent inside midfield, Bont probably a little down considering he was my first pick. Good support from Smith and Langdon on the wings who were both steals. Zorko is a very handy half forward rotation though again a little down on prior years. Douglas okay. Bowes decent young support. Would have been great to get more from Suckling but handily replaced by Langdon who was originally a bench player.

Botched the ruck pick again. Smith just didn't play enough games. Luckily Trengove actually did ruck so I meet the second ruck rule.

Forward line okay without being amazing. McDonald is currently a top 10 goal kicker (42 goals), Stringer done reasonably well (30) and Neal-Bullen came from absolutely nowhere, what a steal (23). Zorko good support (26). Betts only okay by his standards (25). Bont also kicked a few (22) as did Smith (24) so a good rotation in there. Stewart (15) and O'Brien (4) major disappointments who I originally had in the best 22. Not much forward depth.

So far I have the #9, #24, #31, #35, #38, #42 and #44 highest goal kickers in the league. 7 of the top 50 is a pretty good result actually. Unfortunately this game is not decided on goals.

Defence quite solid without any stars, except maybe Grimes. Duggan very good. Hodge and McVeigh played around the amount of games I expected and both still decent. Hamling okay. Trengove pretty crap but I expected that. Burgoyne I expected more games from but injuries. Robertson had a solid season but not a star. McIntosh played a decent amount of games. Would have liked an extra forward or mid on the bench instead of ~9 defenders but that's life. Morris injured a disappointment. Didn't expect Nelson or Nielson to play much.

10 of my best 22 are from teams that will likely make the finals, so that's alright I guess. Didn't draft any Collingwood players, though Hawthorn making the 8 was a nice surprise. Compensated for Adelaide not making it.

As for Player Ratings I have the #3, #9, #15, #32, #39, #48, #64, #86, #98, #105, #118, #143, and #146 out of the top 150. That's above average.

Overall I reckon my team is good, not as good as the team I assembled last year though. Probably not good enough to win it.

EDIT: Actually my squad has played 435 games total so far, and I won last time with 428 games played, and there's a bit over a round to go, so I'm probably in with a shot to win :)

Some interesting teams out there. Danoz has some great starting players but zero depth on the bench. Daniel1812's two key forwards barely played and both are decent. Mr MysteryGuest obliterated with injury, losing Scully, B. Crouch and Treloar for a huge chunk plus Walker was really down on form. A few others would be pretty disappointed with their early picks like Dixon and Patton.

Maggsy snaring Tom Phillips with pick 343 is an absolute steal, best of the draft. Angus Brayshaw with 331 and Jaidyn Stephenson with 439 two great picks by Daniel1812. My pick of Ed Langdon at 516 not too bad either ;)

And the winner is...

Scorpus

Uhhh.... yeah. Awkward. Two years in a row. :$

draftgame2017_winner.png

Top 5:
  1. Scorpus
  2. Danger Zone
  3. Danger in Texas
  4. 1990crow
  5. AdelaideFan14

Now part of the reason I won is because the scoring is heavily weighted to games played. My squad played 500 games. Only four teams (the top 4, in exact order) had a squad that played the full 484 games possible.

I was then able to edge out Danger Zone with two AA squad members, and 8 top 5 B&F finishes, compared to Danger Zone's two AA team members, one AA squad member, and 5 top 5 B&F finishes

FAITH is the one player who is an outlier for games played. It's likely, with a scoring system that favors performance more, that FAITH would have won the game. FAITH had four AA team members and 7 top 5 B&F finishers.

That's why I suggested a scoring system for 2018/19 that is more heavily weighted to player performance. My squad was good but it had a lot of mid-tier players rather than superstars.

adelaidecrows placed themselves at a significant disadvantage by only drafting 20 players

Best Picks of the Draft
  • The highest scoring player in the game was Brodie Grundy with 50.82 points, drafted by Drugs Are Bad Mackay? with pick 17.

  • James Harmes taken at pick 413 by Drugs Are Bad Mackay? was an absolute steal. The 31st highest scoring player in the competition having played 25 games and finished 3rd in the B&F at Melbourne

  • Lachie Whitfield (Kristof, #137), Shannon Hurn (FAITH, #147) and Shane Edwards (Mr MysteryGuest, #167) were top 15 scoring players taken outside the first 100 picks

  • Other extremely good picks: Mark Blicavs (Maggsy, #199) was the 21st highest scoring player. Jack Redden (AdelaideFan14, #273) a steal with a top 30 finish. Tom Phillips (Maggsy, #343) and Blake Hardwick (roo2macca, #371) also very good, both finished top 50 for scoring.

  • Tim Kelly with pick 503 to Danger in Texas was the best draft pick beyond 450. He was the 63rd best player.

Once again, I was placed near the bottom in the pre-season ratings and end up finishing a lot higher than expected. Hopefully I don't do a Port and win the January premiership.

Your squad had very strong depth. 19 players played more than 18 games. But you struggled with the awards, with only one AA squad member
