I have read all the pposts on here but I dont really understand how to go about the selection process and I dont know the objectives. I would try my hand if I had a better understanding of what I have to do.
It's a full draft game, everyome creates a squad from the entire pool of AFL players.

The goal is to create the best squad which is assessed through both the voting and points system. The points system is described above. Also it's just a lot of fun.

Basically you're just trying to select the best players and build the best team. And there are some positional requirements so you have to make your team look like a typical AFL team

Like the real AFL draft everyone is allocated a draft position then when it comes around to your pick, you name a player. We do that over 30 rounds to build the squad. Usually there's a time limit to the picks, so you have 3 hours to make your selection from 8am to 8pm

Check last year's thread and you'll have a good idea

Hey Headless, I remember you followed our game the last few years, want to get involved this time?

Will absolutely be following with interest, but won't be active enough to be involved. Pretty much every one of my selections would be delayed haha.

I did a quick test run with the new scoring system:

Maggsy gets rewarded for drafting the Brownlow Medalist, one of the highest rated players in Patrick Cripps (AA, B&F, high Brownlow, high AFLCA). Also gets rewarded for picking a squad with strong depth (467/484 games played)

FAITH with 417 games moves above Danger in Texas whose squad played 484 games. FAITH selected 4 All Australians, a player 2nd in the Brownlow, one of the highest goal kickers, but wasn't quite as strong with depth. Danger in Texas had good depth but lacked a strong goal kicker and top-end players (aside from Dangerfield)

But picking high scoring players doesn't give a massive advantage necessarily. Drugs are Bad Mackay? picked the 5th highest scorer yet finished bottom 5. Kristof had 3 in the top 15 but again struggled with depth.

With the old system you just needed depth to win. Now you need depth and quality.

Happy enough with 4/5th for both systems. I think the coming season the top 50 players will be harder to pick than ever - less stand out players.

OH ****! Can I play?

I didn't read this thread because it's a stickied thread and I just randomly assumed it was a site wide notice I hadn't paid attention to (because I'm cool and stuff).

E.g.:

"You kids need to play nice".
"Please try to attend work sober".
"Stop being mean to Carlton supporters".
"If your name is Sanders, stop being a douche".

You know, normal, day to day stuff.

IN

STICKIED

SUGGESTIONS:
1. NO MORE CAPS LOCKED COMMENTS
2. Later start (mid December)
3. Simplify scoring to the basic metrics (games played, goals kicked, best & fairest finish, AA, Brownlow)
4. The post-draft judging to be done on gut feel only (no time consuming categories or scoring). People just rank their top five teams in order.
5. Cryptic clues for player names when you draft them a necessity (eg you might put up a picture of Batman =
Rory Sloane
or a potato =
Charlie Dixon

Totally IIIIIIIIN. I'm going more cryptic though.

Armtats + seagull + $$ + kissing mummy goodbye = who?

I can play? But I work full time so picking could be difficult.

Could a mate of mine post on my behalf if I can't post?
Sounds fine so long as your mate is reliable.

You can also pass off preferences to someone else

I'm certainly in again!

Any other ideas or preferences regarding in game rules?

I think we could introduce player trading. I think drafting trends can kill players quickly in this game. especially in KPP and Ruck. Perhaps we can stop the game at the half way point and have a 24 hour trade period for those needing to trade out a star mid for a recognised ruckmen or kpp etc.

what do people prefer? 16 or 18?

will give people another week to show their interest in playing, but the regulars will be in for sure.

same tbh. how many players should we each pick iyo?

32 is optimal for 16 participants.

With 16 participants, you're looking at wanting to reach 7744 total games (16 squads x 22 players x 22 rounds). In last year's game, the first 512 players drafted played a combined 7743 games. Drafting 512 players across 16 teams means 32 rounds of drafting. This would mean that the average team should reach the maximum amount of games played.

Last year 524 players were drafted overall. So a similar number, but that would mean larger squads.

Personally I like drafting as deep as possible. But understandably that's not everyone's cup of tea, and we settled on 30 players last year through the poll. Based on the voting from last year and who is playing this year we had 6 votes for 30 players, 2 votes for 28 players, 2 votes for 26 players and 1 vote for 25.

I reckon 30 is probably fine again

Would be happy to expand to as many people as want to play

The more the merrier!

And if demand warrants to split into two divisions as we did once before (but this time split into 'game tenure conferences' so that the old rivalries can continue)
