Crows recruiting manager Hamish Ogilvie told The Advertiser it was tight between Thilthorpe and McDonald “but in what world can we not take a South Australian who’s basically been the best player in Australia since 14 years of age to now”.

Strong words from our no.1 guy..they seem to fly in the face of a few on this board and their thoughts on Thilthorpe's level of talent

Does anyone know much about this Jason Hately kid? Why did GWS let him go? How come we didn't trade for him if he was worth getting or pick him in the ND instead?
clearly rubbish, I mean GWS couldn't even be bothered trading for him. clearly massive dud.

Im not. Im just saying there is some genuine people that follow/love/support the Club might not know much about it compared to others.

I mean you have some people in the AFL media as an example that dont know much about us and thats their actual job to an extent.
It was a joke, play on words, hence the emoji.

How is that any 'weirder' of an opinion than the original assumption his presence meant he 'wanted' to be there front and center, versus being told he was required as our highest draft pick from the previous year? Both are valid, if not opposing, lines of thought.

"'Wanted' is not the word I would have used observing him, he gave off the distinct impression that he was 'scheduled' to attend.

Hopefully we can turn whatever pick Melbourne/Carlton/St. Kilda give us for him into a decent replacement via trade next year."

That is an absolutely weird opinion. If McAsey was just biding time until leaving for a minnow Vic team, why are we inviting him to participate more around the club?

Maybe it is exactly as it looked. A kid who is interested in the draft and wanted to be a part of it.

The only people thinking him doing this is more evidence that he wants to leave is people that WANT to see that. It's not even remotely logical.

I have to agree, if anything it show him having a real interest in the way the club is run, definitely not the actions of somebody unhappy to be there

Got to get something off my chest.

If the VFL are going to let the blatant rejection of leaving Victoria by Archie Perkins go unpunished that is fine with me.
But for f#@k sake open it up completely and don’t whinge next draft when Horne comes out and says he will not leave SA !

By percentages the SA and WA clubs will come out on top overall.

Horne has said he'd like to stay in SA but he indicated playing for Port would be his first choice, even used the word 'love' because he Dad goes for them. He is a Dockers fan himself seemingly due to Nat Fyfe. Has a long-term SA girlfriend though.

I don't buy Jones as an outside mid, look at footage pre draft and some of the rare good stuff he's done with us is winning the ball and breaking clear, he's an inside mid if he can win the ball more.

I agree with this, he has classy instincts and moves on the inside. The challenge of course is winning the ball more with his light frame vs big body mids

Interesting listening to Hamish, we didn’t try to get another top 10 pick on the night, so posters who said it was obvious we tried to move up were wrong, looking at you Pete

So it's just a weird opinion because you don't subjectively agree with it? Gotcha. Let's be subjective then.

His intention to stay or leave would have nothing to do with what we ask him to do at the draft, which he most likely attended because he was our highest pick from the previous year. I don't believe for a second that when we asked him to attend in that capacity that he would have said 'Nah, stuff that, I'm going home next year, not doing it'. Additionally, he's not going to turn around now and say to his parents or agent 'Shit sorry guys, I can't bail on them now, I attended the draft and it would be a shocking look if I didn't re-sign for another 2 years at least.'

If you want proof that attending the draft means nothing, we sent Sloane and Jake Lever to the 2015 draft, as he was our highest pick from the previous year. There was even a picture of Lever at dinner with our new draftees that night at a local restaurant, all smiles, in full club gear. Pretty sure it was on this forum and everyone said the same thing - look at Jakey-boy, isn't it great that he wants to be a leader, born club-man, etc. Didn't mean anything.

We were going to give Gunston a clubman award the day he decided to not renew his contract with us. We obviously thought he was an OK bloke and wanted to lead. Didn't mean anything either.

I do think he will leave in 12 months and I am happy to be proven wrong, and won't have any issue admitting that I was if he stays, but him attending the draft is not a key indicator of him staying. As you put it, the only people who think it is are the people who WANT to see that.

Lever would have stayed if we paid what he thought he was worth.

9 new players into a list of 40ish is a big turnover in one year. Only Hinge and Hately, plus maybe the Thilthorpedo would be able to start in round 1 next year, so this is going to take some time before we can judge how good this haul has been.
James Rowe would be be ready to go round 1,

Adelaide was the only club to even contemplate selecting Pavlich. He simply wasn't on the radar for any other club. Adelaide made a conscious decision to overlook him, and for that mistake we've forever been tarred.

It's a shame really, because it's cast a shadow over the whole of KMac's career. Most of the 17yo selections that year were complete failures - KMac had a very successful career, in stark contrast to the rest of this small group.

Kenny was the most under-rated and unappreciated player the Crows have ever had on their list.

Do we know who are the top 5 or so players predicted in next year's draft?

Is Horne seen as the stand out number 1?

Matt Roberts, Arlo Draper, Cooper Murley and even Cooper Beecken are some of the SA lads likely to be at the pointy end of the draft. Not sure Horne is a standout but would be leading the pack at the moment.
