Any chance of getting an updated current list here,. Surely the club could supply an updated list for Big Footy.

Did hear about midway through the season that VB and Griffatron deals were close. Any word on them.

Also I'm very keen to find out Richie's contract status.

According to news reports tonight, Gill has signed a one year deal.

I heard this and it sounds strange

Why sign McGregor up with a new 2 year deal, but only give Gill a 1 year deal.

Sounds arse about

Yes, but why did he only get a 1 year deal, especially seeing McGregor got 2 years.

As I said, it seems arse about

As it was reported, no other club showed any interest in McGregor, so your point is?

As for my initial question, if you have no idea, just say so, it's shouldn't be difficult for you to admit that

Under the AFLPA collective bargaining agreement, clubs are obliged to give new draftees a 2-year deal if the have never been on an AFL list before. However, players who HAVE previously been on an AFL list can be offered 1-year contracts.

Nick Gill had previously been on the lists of both Melbourne and North Melbourne.

Given that he had a long injury of history, was a mature aged player who had failed to make the grade at two previous clubs, and was essentially an insurance pick (covering for Hentschel), it was entirely reasonable for him to be given only a 1-year contract initially.

As to why KMac was given a 2-year extension, but Gill only given a 1-year extension, the mind boggles. Guess KMac must be one of NC's favourites after all.

Let me assure you that he is not - just the reverse, which was part of the reason that Kenny was looking around elsewhere.

We are losing Roo and Perrie out of our forward line in 2008, which only leaves Gill as a contested marking option up forward from the proven brigade.

Sellar won't be ready next year, Hentschel is not a pack marker even if he plays, and Tippett may or may not be ready.

We will need Kenny next year, with 2009 being the likely transitional changing of the guard up forward.

As for Gill, his is more a question of whether his body will hold up for a full year, as we saw this year with him not being available until the last third of the year.

If he has a year where he plays virtually all year in 2009 with good form , you'd be confident that his next contract would be a 2 year one. :thumbsu:

Has that been confirmed that Perrie is retiring?

I agree on thoughts to why Kenny is being kept ......Also agree re question marks on Gills fitness and ability to go the distance.

But I also believe another reason he has a one year contract is to see if his skills improve sufficiently to survive at AFL level.

As much as he's exciting and unpredictable .....we have seen already North lose a final due to his kicking ......it may still cost him his AFL career at the end of 08
