I'm not sure how much this should be taken into account, but it should be mentioned that the compensation pick we traded away and was eventually used on Tim Broomhead came the spot after our 2012 1st round draft pick which we relinquished due to the Tippett situation. So we could have had him anyways, but....

Just for future references pick 28 (pre academy bidding) ended up with Kangaroos and they picked Mitch Hibberd with it. It will be interesting if this is one of those picks that changes many hands during the trade period and the player that ends up being picked by it turns out to be gun.

Updated with draft period changes
  • Jarryd Lyons was drafted at Pick 61 in 2010 from the pick gained from trading Jonathon Griffin to Fremantle. Jarryd Lyons has since been traded for Pick 43 in 2016 and a fourth round pick upgrade.
  • Mitch Grigg was partial value from Gunston deal. Originally drafted at Pick 41 in 2011. Now delisted
  • Henderson was first round rookie pick. Now delisted and free agent at Hawthorn
  • Keenan Ramsey was second round rookie pick. Now delisted.
  • Luke Lowden was partial value from trade of Pick 31 to Hawthorn for Kyle Cheney and late pick upgrades. Originally drafted at pick 63 by Hawthorn in 2008. Hawthorn used trade value on Daniel Howe and Marc Pittonet. Now delisted.
  • Nathan Van Berlo was second round pick (24 in 2004). Now retired.
  • Sam Shaw was third round pick (45 in 2009). Now retired.

Missing the best option. Tippett leaving allowed us to recruit Betts and gave JJ an opportunity. It is not just trades, salary cap space matters as well. Tippett leaving was a net positive due to the draft picks lost and blokes drafted after them not amounting to much and allowing us to recruit betts but we did lose Vince.
