His pre season has been interrupted. Do you think he can improve on last night?
Let’s hope he’s already played his last game for the AFL side and he’s got nuthin but sanfl fixtures to look forward to.. he’ll go alright in the sanfl.. and I also reacon Douglas won’t be too far behind him..

We’ve got far too much young talent coming through to be letting Mackay cruise back into his old spot.

He’s a good player to have in the squad. It’s a long season and unfortunately losing good players to injury is part of it for all teams. If we have to call on him we could do a lot worse.

In my humble opinion it speaks volumes for our team right now that even Mackay at his career best would not be best 22 this year.

I think a career best Dougy would be, but a 32 year old Dougy isn’t in my opinion. I think we’ll see that playout over the course of this season and hopefully the coaches make the call when that is beyond any doubt or sooner.

Hopefully Mackay, Douglas, Otten, and Wright provide us a rock solid core to our SANFL team that allows our young players to maximise their development despite the handicap of the top ups.

Would that be due to the players association demanding 4 days off?

Thanks for report those that saw SANFL game .
I was just wondering how Hamill , Butt etc of first year players went.
Not really impressed with Butts, but it was one game. Hamill had some nice defensive moments, but he's still really slightly built. All 3 of Butts, Hamill and Scholl look like they'll need a year or two in the SANFL. McHenry was very impressive, defensive intensity is top notch and disposal was quality, hit a few 30m kicks to the open man where he kicked it far enough ahead the running player didn't have to break stride to catch it perfectly on the chest. Stengle was really great up forward too.

Personally thought Butts did a few good things in the U23 game. Didn't see the SANFL trial game. He's a young fella taken as a rookie, lets give him some love

After 200 games, being dropped to the reserves and not having your spot guaranteed would be a kick in the guts.

He will be a handy addition for the SANFL lads though, I suspect he hasn't played much of the internal trials so he would be rusty.

Not really, like Thommo, he signed an extension and would have been told that he’s no longer considered best 22. Choose to sign, choose to play SANFL. Fact is that he’s never been all that great at that level the few he’s played after being dropped. But, outside of inside mids, not many seem to dominate. Smithers did I think, but he’s a whole different level to Mackay as is Doedee. But outside of the years that we had CEY, Lyons, Wigg and Grigg amassing 30+ every week, the 2’s doesn’t seem an easy place to ply a trade.

The style of game is different, very contested.

Fractured fingers are going to be this year's hamstrings.

Poor Andy can't catch a break.
