kinda off topic- but what the hell:
did anyone buy EA sports' AFL 99 for the PS when it came out last year, and did they enjoy it on a long term basis(ie longer than 2 months)?????? because i thought it was an OK game but lacked that long term appeal. Also does anyone know if an updated version is coming out some time this year ???? Ive checked out easports.com, but they have no info. I just think they can do a hell of a better job of it this time round, and Im keen to see how they improve it (thats if they bother at all).
any opinions or info much appreciated.
cheers.

i totally agree Arch i had AFL 99 for a while and it was good but i thought a few drawbacks that need to be changed for the 2000 edition. The gameplay was solid and the graphics were good but the overhead marks were all the same and a big surprise with the game was statistics. All EA sports game have always had extensive stats yet AFL 99 had none. You couldnt tell how many touches each player had or who was kicking the most goals. I think it would also be interesting if they gave away the brownlow at the end of a season. In NBA 2000 they give away the MVP so its the same premise. Anyway could type lots more about the subject but i cant be bothered.

yeh- I think you should also be able to run your club over many seasons (instead of one) so you can draft, trade, drop players, have retirements and WAY more detailed stats. Give away the Norwich Rising star (get some advertising dollars from Norwich) and Brownlows.EA should also make an attempt to render all the AFL stadiums, so theyre recognizable and make the crowds cheer for the home team, rather than for any goal. Also, Brucey should be caller and have Dermott as analyst, rather than only one voice.
anyway- thats my wishlist- Id be really keen to see a new and improved version of AFL 99.

The multiple years option is great, NBA live 2000 (big b'ball fan aswell as afl) has that option. You can trade in the offseason, introduce new rookies, retire ppl, and the stats have to come. During a game your midfield could be getting belted but you dont know who to drop because it has no stats. You could drop Banfield and bring in say Kemp (if were talking eagles) but unawares to you banfield could have been yor shining light in the midfield its totally stupid. And another big thing that has to come is injuries AFL is way too much of a contact sport to have no injuries. Thats what makes games challenging when a couple of your big stars get injured you have to rethink all the positions on the field and decide who you bring to replace them, this is what sport games are about so EA sports better get there arses into gear and make some improvements.

Agree with everything so far.

the big 2 for my liking are trading players (I always want to play my fantasy footy team vs the rest) and create your own player.

I always do that, as I think it adds to the game.

Also, you shuldn't be able to change player's and team's ability like that.
