Pertinent thread. Got some questions to those that have had their teams in the grand final before:
  1. As Tiger members we're being asked to register this week for GF tickets. Is this usual for the final four clubs (would have been next week if we had to play a semi final), or are the Tigers just full of hubris?
  2. Apparently we have to pay a non-refundable $5 fee to register (whether we get tickets or not). Again, is this standard?
If the second is common it seems to me particularly outrageous. Just say 60k of our members, 40k of Adelaide's, 20k of Sydney's and 5k of GWS' register (no offence meant Cats or Eagle - just quoted for example). That's $625,000 spent just for registering! With 3 interstate teams!
Yup - it's a good rort :(. I think you get the $5 back if you end up in the GF and get tickets, but otherwise, you don't. From last year: http://www.theroar.com.au/2016/09/20/get-tickets-afl-grand-final/

To be fair there are extra costs incurred by Ticketek, someone has to set it all up, send out the forms, pay for postage/printing, handle any registration problems etc, then run the actual ballot after the prelims and deal with the inevitable issues, declined credit cards etc. They may make some profit off it but that's why they're in business in the first place. I never had a problem with the fee in what for me was always a smooth and hassle free process.

What are the ticketmaster onsale options?
The parent company of Ticketmaster run a website for resale of tickets to events.
They aren't doing the actual selling, they are just providing the platform for people to sell tickets the same way people can use ebay or gumtree.
Pretty sure though for the GF they will take down any ads for inflated prices because it is illegal. Most other events it's not illegal.

The worst bit though is that the AFL uses Ticketmaster for Etihad stadium.
The AFL could simply tell them not to allow resale of tickets for any AFL game above face value or we will hand over the Etihad contract to Ticketek.

are they banned from on-selling at inflated price
Only the GF is protected under the anti scalping legislation in Victoria, bit all finals should be protected IMO. The challenge would be for other states to implement the same legislation.

Swiss-based online seller Viagogo has also been offering tickets for almost $400 plus handling fees and taxes which is immoral IMO, but but illegal today.

Swans didn't exhaust their allocation last year so pretty good you would think.
Last year, the tickets that the Swans did not use went to the Bulldogs.

ie. All tickets set aside for Competing Club Members 16,000 - 35,000 went to competing club members (The bulldogs members used them up).

They were not made available to AFL members. That is a different ticketing tier with different ticketing allocations I think.

How many tickets are available for AFL members, will the prelim ticketing be the same as the QF and what are the chances of grabbing GF tickets with AFL membership? I'm a Richmond member but I have a few mates with AFL memberships.

I've been a member for around 23 years and have never been able to get a ticket with my basic HFC membership (2008, 2013-15).

It's a capitalist system. If you have the money, pay the premium.

If not, understand you will be disappointed in all likelihood as you won't get tickets in the ballot.

I'm unlikely to get a ticket via the Richmond members ballet, would paying a shitload on ebay be the only other way to get a GF ticket if we made it?
You can buy a corporate package, they're really ******* expensive though. E.G. I went with my stepdad to the Hawks v Freo GF a few years ago, it was $1700 each from memory and we were sitting in Q deck...but we got the privilege of breakfast before the game :straining:

What are the chances of getting a ticket via AFL member allocation of its Richmond v Adelaide/Swans?
Probably similar to last year.
There were very limited single seat scraps left for silver members with competing club of support.
The decent Gold(Full) member seats went very quickly.

Ah no worries - honestly I haven't tried to get tickets since 2005/6 under the old system - I figure I had my go, and someone else can enjoy it. I probably just misread the instructions and for some reason thought the $5 came off your total if you ended up getting a ticket - all good :). You're right though, it's not an unreasonable cost.

Not baiting just stating a fact most threads on the main board are cats fans whining, put on the radio and their whining read the news their whining, just be pleased you've won some flags and are playing finals
And that's what we all don't get. Why is the MCG such a big problem now? Is it because previously they had a powerful team that could play anywhere whereas now the cracks are showing and looking flakey?

Cue the "at least we made the finals and Hawthorn didn't" response from the Cats fans........there, I saved you the trouble.

The $5 fee is disgusting. So at the end, they fleece $5 from the non participating members and for what return. Why not just add that to ticket price and be done with it. To put this in perspective if 50,000 members apply for tickets, that's $250,000 in the AFL/ticketek coffers for nothing. $500,000 gained from the 2 non participating clubs. $1m from all applications!!! Who the hell allowed this???

Any adelaide or richmond supporters not using their memberships to go down on the ballot this week? If so I'm willing to pay you to use your membership to go down for tickets.
