Saints claim stunning upset over napping Cats

ST KILDA snatched a famous three-point victory from the jaws of defeat and claimed the scalp the club so desperately wanted by downing League leaders Geelong in a thrilling clash at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night. In a nailbiting final term, St Kilda came back from nine points down at the 18-minute mark thanks to a miraculous soccer off the ground by Jack Steven, after Jade Gresham's stunning snap from the pocket.

ST KILDA 4.2 8.6 12.8 14.9 (93)
GEELONG 1.4 4.6 10.9 13.12 (90)

Today's Preview

St Kilda has its season back on an even ledger at 2-2 without having played its best football. It comes into this game on the back of two relatively scrappy wins against the Brisbane Lions and Collingwood and will likely need to be cleaner with the ball against Geelong to cause an upset. The speed the Saints have plays well under the roof at Etihad Stadium and will cause concerns for the Cats. By Chris Scott's own admission, his side isn't at its best despite sitting unbeaten through the first four rounds. Patrick Dangerfield and Joel Selwood have typically been in excellent form but impressive contributions from the likes of Tom Hawkins, Mitch Duncan and Steven Motlop are what can make this side a premiership contender.

Hopefully last year has taught the Cats to be ready for them this time.

Geelong generally struggle to come up the week after a Hawthorn game but last week was nowhere near as taxing as those clashes have been in the past.

Geelong by about 5 goals.

Could be a cracking game if we come to play, don't take a nap during the game and stop spraying our shots all over creation!

I note that Geelong are the only team in the comp with a negative kick-to-handball ratio, so that could play into our hands, as it gives us extra opportunities to pressure and tackle, which is what our game is built on.

They also press back and launch from defence, which also gives us the opportunity to press up and lock them into our forward half.

Don't think they'll take this lightly though, after our last two encounters and also because they know they haven't been putting it together for 4 quarters and will want to keep working on that.

Nice to have a couple of strong options for Hawkins for the first time in years tho!

He seems very shy & self conscious which is a little awkward... love him as a player, think he's ok as a panellist but this feels forced. Maybe time will improve him

Just think you could have put him on the ANZAC game rather than this one.
