Had a laugh at the injury excuses, Naitanui is far better and more influential than anyone the dogs have out.
Haha quality post. You're missing one good player out of your best 22. (I don't rate Cripps at all). We have 6 to come back in. Enjoy the win. You were the better team tonight. The fact you only beat us by 8 points without a forward line says more about your mob than ours.

GAME PREVIEW

Western Bulldogs

Finding it hard to get a read on West Coast’s form this season? Last week’s win at Adelaide Oval over the Power was impressive, yet just two weeks earlier they went down to the tune of 50 points to the 16th placed Hawks. In short, their form is actually very good and they’ll be tough to beat on the narrow deck of the old Subiaco, there’s no doubt about that.

Smacked around - That’s how West Coast midfielder Chris Masten described the last time these two sides met, in last year’s Elimination Final. And it was the contested ball differential where the damaged was done according to Masten, and it will be in that area where the Eagles will be looking to turn the result around.

“It was the hardest one in memory to watch. We’ve got a lot to answer for, he told The West Australian.
“Contested footy is the No.1 area where they really smashed us. They send a lot of numbers into the contest and they were able to win that and then get us on the outside.”

On that night last September the Bulldogs were plus-23, whereas this season the average numbers are a lot closer; the Dogs are fourth in the League with an average of 148.3 per game, with the Eagles in ninth at 143.3. Also, in their only two losses this season, they were beaten at the source, so expect them to be bring some fire to the contest of Friday night.

Yeo to Bont?

Head to head match-ups don’t happen much in the modern game, but ever so gradually we’re starting to see it a bit more. Just this week Fremantle coach Ross Lyon floated the possibility of Dockers captain Nat Fyfe facing off with Dustin Martin when the two sides go to battle on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.

So, is there any prospect of something similar happening at Domain on Friday night? Eagles midfielder Matt Priddis says yes, suggesting that he’d like to see the in-form Elliot Yeo take on Bulldog Marcus Bontempelli. They’re almost the same size, Yeo is 190cm and 88kg and Bont is 192 and 85, and Yao is averaging 25 touches and 10 marks a game, while Bont is putting up 27 touches, six clearances, nine tackles and a goal.

Will it happen?

Luke Beveridge was asked about it before the team flew to Perth on Thursday, and his answer was straightforward: “It’s up to them.”

West Coast Eagles

West Coast coach Adam Simpson won't use the pain of last year's elimination final defeat to motivate his players ahead of Friday night's blockbuster against the Western Bulldogs. Eight months have passed since the Dogs kick-started their fairytale run to a drought-breaking premiership with a 47-point humbling of West Coast at Domain Stadium, but that disappointment has been impossible for the Eagles to forget.

The players relived those bitter memories when Simpson showed footage from last year's final earlier this week, although the coach wasn't making a point of revving up his troops for payback.

"We used a bit of vision for strategic purposes and what they're trying to do with the ball, so quite often you reflect on the last time you played, but no I won't be using that (final) as motivation," Simpson said.
"It's a completely different season, different atmosphere, different focuses in terms of what we're about.

Simpson confirmed at least one change for round eight, with young onballer Liam Duggan set to return from a corked thigh after missing the gritty road win over Port Adelaide.

The Eagles are weighing up throwing half-back Elliot Yeo into the middle to take on Dogs star Marcus Bontempelli, after Yeo blanketed Nat Fyfe in the Western Derby and held him to a season-low 19 touches.
"It would be a good match-up," Simpson said. "Bontempelli's another level with his performances, but if we put too much work into him there is so many good midfielders at the Bulldogs it might compromise other things.

"It takes away a few things (Yeo) does in other areas of the ground; we'll look at it though. "He's done it before with Fyfe."

SUMMARY

Contested possessions have become a major indicator of the Eagles' performances and will be a key focus after the Dogs smashed them around the ball during the elimination final. The reigning premiers, who will be without star forward Jake Stringer (knee), have yet to hit their straps in 2017 but banked their fifth win in a thriller against Richmond last Saturday night and will have no fears returning to West Coast's fortress for the match of the round.

The Bulldogs aren't that good either, you've lost 3 games and have been lucky not to lose 3 more.

West Coast really should have beaten you easily tonight, only their poor goal kicking and them losing a rare free kick count at Subi kept you in it.

Was a fluke but luckily for him his best game of his career was when everyone was watching so he will have a few more years at least to live off that.
Because it's not like the Eagles had anyone missing from their best 22.
Every week without fail. :$
Nowhere to be seen in September and October. Will go missing again come finals as well.

Your forward line was destroyed but our ruck stocks were? You have 6 to come back in and we have 4 and I'd rate our 4 higher than the best 4 of that six. You guys just aren't that good.

Our ruck tonight was Boyd. We had our #1 ruckman out as well. Who destroyed you last year. And natunui all earlier in the season too. Name your 4 who you had out?

yes easton wood would have kicked 8 goals by himself. great analysis. put cyril to the backpocket so he can improve the ball movement. if nic nat had not got injured last year they would have won that home final and would have won by 5 -10 goals tonight. tom boyd as a ruckmen

I'm pretty sure that's not what he said :drunk:

Yeah bit of a difference in the quality of the ruckman you had out and the two ruckman we had out. Naitanui, cripps, lycett and nelson.

Lol is Natinui even back this year? And mentioning Cripps and Nelson as your more important outs just proves how much you know about footy. Like I said, enjoy the win tonight. But please promise me you won't go missing come finals in the game day thread.
