I'd argue that due to years of poor recruiting prior to 2015, Carlton's list wasn't in a position where they had the luxury to take this approach. Your 22-29 group is the worst in the league by a considerable margin, which makes the decision to shed the little experience you had unfathomable.

You add Touhy, Garlett, Henderson, Gibbs, Robinson and Bell then you're also a completely different side. Still not top eight, but experienced enough to provide an environment where your kids can properly develop. You only need to compare the quiet performances tonight from Fisher and Curnow to some of their stronger games earlier in the season to see how much a competitive side helps. Every side is going to have injuries to their experienced players, which is why Carlton were so naive in spreading their experience so thinly.
* me.

How many times does it need to be repeated? The majority of them wanted out. Robinson was delisted because he was a dickhead and we really don't miss him, I don't care how badly we've played lately. Ordinary footballer.

I'd like to play the tigers again also, easily the worst opposition we have faced this year and the one most likely to half arse the effort level required.
If we played you again the result would be similar to Brisbane.

Who predicted we would smash collingwood given the form we hadn't shown prior? You must be smoking something good to dream that s**t up.

SOS tried to get Kelly & Rockliff knowing we needed midfield leadership with the likely loss of gibbs hence why we refused to trade him the year before, maybe do some research before you trash talk something you are wrong about.

Made go and take a look at your pre-match thread and you’ll see how confident u guys were. So don’t talk crap.

How hard did SOS try to get Kelly and Rockliff? Don’t you get it???!!! Rather than just go for free agents, dangle some of those high draft picks to get good players from other clubs.

The blues knew Gibbs was off 2 draft periods ago. They should have been working on that then, not once he was gone. You could have even asked Adelaide for a top player and a draft pick.

There were so many options for SOS to get good, experienced players in. Instead he sticks to the only strategy he knows which is to just build up draft picks and target crap experienced players from other clubs which don’t cost anything.

He is gambling with the future of the Carlton Football Club. The draft is a lottery which he is relying on to get your club up there. Each year how many successful draft picks do clubs end up having?

go away
Get a life.
You are a Carlton hater
We all know it.
They are rubbish.
Don't need you to tell us.
If you struggle with the fact that unfortunately Carlton are a long term struggling club maybe it is you that needs to go away?

You go into any pregame thread of any clubs board you will find a dozen supporters predicting or hoping for a big win, you need to get your head checked if you are taking that as the opinion of an entire supporter base.

You contradicted yourself in the line previous, Kelly wasn't a free agent genius.

Carlton knew Gibbs wanted to go home at the end of 2016 not 2 years ago and Carlton also knew we could hold him as long as we wanted because we needed the senior midfielders, we let him go last year on the back of getting Lang/Kennedy who have been injured/playing underdone and the hopes of getting Rockliff to directly replace him which if not for a last ditch offer from PA would have happened.

We are fine, everything is on target.

Is it really perspective when you’re comparing your team to North, a team expected by many preseason to be bottom 6.

Here’s some perspective. You have achieved finals 6 times this century (18 completed seasons). Two of those were with the remnants of the side of the mid to late nineties. The rest were carried by Judd whilst never really threatening for a flag.

In 2007 my club broke its 44 year premiership drought, early that season we thrashed Carlton by 13 goals. At the end of that season you drafted your 3rd successive no.1 pick, Matthew Kreuzer.

Fast forward to 2018 and my club has turned over 85% of its list since the 2011 premiership has missed finals 1 time, been better than Carlton all through out, had 1 top 10 pick while you are still no better now than what you were in April 2007 getting thrashed by 13 goals.

You can raise whatever perspective you wish but frankly the Carlton football club, its drafting and development has been an absolute farce, and has been so for more than a decade.

Thrashed by a North side most see as on the slide and destined for no finals... meanwhile you have 1 decent key forward who is young. Curnow. Your defence is frankly a rabble. Jones is a spud, Weitering looks absolutely lost atm. Mullett isn’t good enough for a finals side. You’ve traded in GWS offcuts Plowman and Marchbank (admittedly both appear decent) as well as Docherty. For a team rebuilding you’ve drafted 1 player in your starting defence (excluding the veteran Simpson.).

After Murphy (31) and Cripps have no real top line mids coming through. Kruezer will be retired by the time you contend so not sure why a young ruck isn’t getting experience, or why Lobbe was recruited.

Thomas, Wright, Casboult, Rowe due to age are deadwood. No idea why the first two were recruited given it was a rebuild (again) phase.

Have as many top 10 picks on the list as the Cats, Hawks and Swans combined yet will win another spoon by the looks of it. To think the AFL hand out prime time slots to this side as well.

Sorry ODN but jam that perspective.

The past has no bearing on the rebuild. Where people expected North to finish has no bearing on the rebuild. 13 players 23 and under averaging 29 games out on the field last night does. Our senior players out there were 28 and over. We had 3 in between and they aren't much chop ... Mullet, O'Shea and Jones.

The players out there last night aren't responsible for history. We know and acknowledge how poorly things have been done in the past. Packaging that in with the present is lazy IMO.

We were missing 8 of our best 22 last night, we were missing 5 of our best 7 defenders. O'shea, Mullet, Jones make way for Docherty, Williamson, ASOS, Marchbank, Byrne allowing Cunningham and others to return to wing positions.

If you look at the lists ODN posted all of North's 24+ year old players are solid best 22 key contributors to their side particularly their midfield unit which was seasoned bodies playing against Ed curnow and a bunch of 18-20 year old kids (You could throw in Cripps but if you watched the game he didn't spend more then 5 seconds without a north player holding him down).

Byrne, Williamson, Simpson, Weitering (Plowman, Marchbank, Docherty traded for) are all drafted members of our best backline fyi, we have a young ruck in De Koning drafted this season learning his trade in the VFL, pretty pointless to bring him in and play 2 rucks in the modern running game.

Thomas was recruited when Malthouse was in charge aiming for a flag, why are you including him? Wright was a Delisted Free agent that cost nothing and provides at least 1 senior head up forward while doing his job (In case you missed it we don't have any senior players up forward). Casboult will make way for Mckay/Kerr sooner rather then later, Rowe will struggle to get a game if everyone is fit and firing.

Lang....wow. Why do you Carlton supporters pin so much hope in him as a senior leader? That is really scaling the bottom of the barrel.

And Kelly??? Seriously, if you don’t understand the comment, don’t bother replying.

You’re obviously happy where the blues are at. Seems like they are on target to deliver up to your expectations.

You labelled us as chasing free agents and kelly in the same basket, you made note of how we should be trading for players right after mentioning we were chasing kelly.

I understand it perfectly, you ****ed up and made yourself look silly and are back peddling as fast as you can.

Lang is a senior body capable of assisting cripps and murphy while the younger players develop, why is something so simple so hard for you to grasp?

I am certainly happy with the direction the club is heading, this has been the best structured rebuild I can remember and when it all clicks you will disappear never to be heard from again.

Wow....Williamson, ASOS, Byrne all best 22??? Things really are dire.

I’ve got a feeling the blues are wasting any talent they have recruited. And that’s simply because they have failed miserably to use some high draft selections to entice clubs to let top senior players go. Guys like Weitering who have now been in the system for 3 years are not improving. Can you imagine how much better he would actually be if he had leaders to turn to?

The blues are hiding by the ‘inexperience’ and injuries to players (apart from Docherty) who wouldn’t make best 22 at other clubs. At some point they won’t be able to hide, and there will Ben massive change. Bolton will go even though SOS is the issue. But the blues don’t like getting rid of their ‘own’. How Kernehan survived all those years is a prime example.

Only way someone is getting beaten by that margin in a carlton richmond clash is if you are the ones on the losing side.
This isn’t Bay 13, serious posting only thanks not pure fantasy.

You have never beaten us by 100 points and never will, win 1 premiership and you flogs think you are suddenly great honestly get a grip.
Acting in a certain manner after winning a flag is a lot better than your carry on after an 80 point drubbing.
Carltons constant woes aren't the fault of anyone other than themselves.

He’s in a dream world where it’s still the time where Carlton was a powerhouse rather then the reality of being a complete shambles that it’s become that can’t seem to embrace the way the game works now.
Time to move with the times rather then continuing to live in the past, we are on opposite ends of the ladder and it’s not changing any time soon champion.

Some of these Carlton melts on multiple threads certainly don't belong on the main board,I seriously don't understand why some Carlton people are expecting any sort of praise at all for their current predicament.
