Neither team is in great nick at the moment, but the Pies need a win here desperately

Neither team is in great nick at the moment, but the Pies need a win here desperately
Where and when: MCG, Sunday August 4, 1.10pm AEST
TV, radio and online: Click here for broadcast guide
What it means for Collingwood:
An absolute must-win game and preferably a percentage-booster for an injury-plagued, out-of-form team that still hopes to have an impact in the finals. Lose here and they might well be free in September.

What it means for Gold Coast: After coming within a whisker of upsetting Essendon at home, a win over Collingwood at the home of football would be a great way for the bottom team to break a 14-game drought.

The stat: The two teams have met in Melbourne just twice and on both occasions the Magpies posted landslide victories – by 97 points at the MCG in round 10, 2012 (the Suns' second season), and by 71 points at Docklands in round 22, 2016.
The match-up: Brodie Grundy v Jarrod Witts
Grundy (the second-ranked ruckman at No. 3 overall in the Official AFL Player Ratings) has had another huge season, but was below his best in the loss to Richmond and is expected to face stiff resistance from in-form Suns co-captain Witts (the ninth-ranked ruckman at No. 70), who left Collingwood at the end of 2016 for more opportunity.

It’s a big week for: Mason Cox
The Magpie giant contributed 18 goals in his first 11 outings this season, but has been held goalless in the past two rounds while averaging just 7.5 touches and 3.5 marks. As is the case with 100-game goalsneak Jamie Elliott, the 'American Pie' has probably kept his spot because of the Woods' injury crisis.

Big call: The Suns will again surrender a late lead, providing some respite for the under-siege Woods.

Prediction: Magpies by 19 points

If the Suns somehow got up it would be right up there with The Miracle on Ice and Leicester City winning the Premier League in the GOAT upset list, come on you Suns of Guns.

Magpies by 92.

We're a massive chance here. After arguably our best performance of the season (yes, that includes games we won) we're likely to add Ainsworth, Bowes and Martin back into our midfield to address the centre clearance deficiency we showed against Essendon (11-20). The Bombers struggled big time to stop 19 year old Ben King on Sunday and I'm not sure Roughead or Scharenberg will do a much better job on him than Cale Hooker did. Our three tall forward line of King, Day and Wright were functioning well (they kicked a combined 9 goals) plus our nippy smalls in Sexton and Fiorini popped up for a few majors as well. The only thing that really concerns me is being able to stop Mason Cox as we're short on tall defenders right now.

We've never beaten the Pies at the G and this is our opportunity to prove the doubters wrong and show we do have a bright future at the home of football.

Roughead could be 50/50, depending on how he is tested. Suffered a concussion last weekend.

Yeah agree it would be 10 times bigger than Suns upset win over the Swans away 2 years ago.
However they won't get close. Pies by 72 points. Big Cox to find some form and kick 5 goals.

Would love to see the Suns get up, but even though the Pies are in a form slump, I feel they'll really clamp down and go for the jugular.

Up to this game in our eye balls. Outside of those 2 poor games in a row against Richmond and Adelaide which everyone seems to fixate on we have been mostly competitive this year including last week.

Could easily have another 2 or 3 wins this season.

With struggle without 3 of our starting KPD but will have plenty of pace out of defence if the ball hits the deck.

Collingwood are favorites. But we aren't without a chance. First and only game on the G for a young team, they will be up for it.

You know your teams struggling when you're genuinely not confident of beating a team that's practically won only 3 games in an entire season of footy. :$
