There's still plenty at stake for the Hawks and Roos in 2019

There's still plenty at stake for the Hawks and Roos in 2019

Where and when: Marvel Stadium, Friday August 2, 7.50pm AEST

TV, radio and online: Click here for broadcast guide

What it means for North Melbourne: This is a chance to restore the positivity from early in Rhyce Shaw's tenure. The Roos have lost three straight games and a finals appearance is highly unlikely, but there's plenty still to be gained.

What it means for Hawthorn: A September berth remains a possibility and the Hawks are playing as well as almost any team. Having said that, Alastair Clarkson's men can't afford to drop this one if they want to play finals.

The stat: The Hawks have won nine of their past 11 meetings with North, but the clubs have split the last four at Marvel Stadium, the scene of their round 20 clash.

The match-up: James Frawley v Ben Brown
Not much is being said or written about Frawley (ranked 301 in the Official AFL Player Ratings), but he's been a big reason for Hawthorn's spike in form. Opposition forwards are struggling to get hold of him, but the Kangaroos would dearly love Brown (124) to do exactly that.

It's a big week for: Grant Birchall
Every game is critical for the four-time premiership star, who's trying to prove he deserves another contract. Birchall hasn't lost his ability, so he just needs to illustrate his body can hold up to the rigours of AFL football.

Big call: The Hawks fall short of 100 points again but kick 14 goals for the first time in 2019.

Prediction: Hawthorn by 24 points

North signs Shaw.

They already had their Shaw-bump!

Really impressed by post-Scott North. Great to see all the whinging in the coaches box gone too.

Hawks playing well but need to kick straight.

Great rivalry games - often a bit of biff in em.

Hawks by 9 points.

The 'other' Pride match - both teams really playing for pride, and in some form, but I think North will win comfortably. After two losses i think they'll want to make a statement.

Don't know how anyone can go into this game with a "safe" tip. Have been sitting here staring at my tipping app for about 15 minutes trying to decide who to go for (am 2 tips up in the work tipping comp so have to tip with the brain and not heart).

Reckon tonight will be a cracking game ... underrated contest with North to have a little too much firepower . NM by 17 points

North are favourites and for good reason. North just have to get off to a decent start or break even with Hawthorn at half time and over run us in the second half. Should win by 4 goals+

If it wasn't for the fact that the hawks are playing us I'd really want them to win this, milestone game for the culture of both clubs. Wish both well and for no injuries!

Props to Chief for finding one of the several thousand images of a Hawthorn player hitting Goldy in the head.

Hawks were unlucky to not win last week. They will have too much class for North I feel. Should be a comfortable 34 point victory.
Not taking opportunities isn’t unlucky. Bad footy and the Lions took full advantage. Hawks haven’t been terrific this season and North post Scott have been much better. Think this will be close. North at home at the dome should get across the line. Kangas by 9pts.
