Im seeing people quoting one free here, one not given there, and all in a lot of isolation.
The first section of the attached link gives a good tally throughout the game of the free kicks.
Read ‘em and weep:

So why is everyone up in arms about the Stephenson call?
Because apparently Essendon were dead certs to go coast to coast and kick a goal and win the game, and not be robbed of what should have been their glorious victory.

A great game from both teams. Unlike the previous try hard afl marketing match that on the night before.
I don’t get this post. Why do it? There’s not enough angst in the thread already?

I don't know why I bother sometimes. People just see what they want to see. He clearly had no prior opportunity and had one arm held making it nearly impossible to dispose of the ball correctly anyway.

I don't mind the 'Collingwood is the team you love to hate' banter even though it's schoolyard level humor and really outdated generalisations from half a century ago "a hurr durr u hav no teef", but the bias and outright hatred of Collingwood on the main board is pathetic and sad, especially from Richmond supporters who we've been living rent free in the heads of since the prelim. It's seriously embarrassing being a footy fan sometimes. A game watched by nothing but man-children.
It’s funny, i have read your posts in reverse on this thread, and seen your frustration at what you see is trolling, and a general lack of understanding of the rules, and even broad stroke a supporter base, yet, this is one of your early leads. I have seen posters from 5 different clubs openly bait and troll tigers in this thread. Just dumb shit, designed to derail and illicit responses.
Now, if people wanna talk footy, happy to do so, however, there’s a consistent group of posters which i could counter argue back to you that we are rent free in their heads, because they just can’t help themselves. Every. Game. Day. Thread. You can name 5 tigers? Whoop de do, i can name more than that alone of MB pies posters.
So, i would suggest to you, re-read this and maybe some inner reflection is required. Because, I could respond in kind, real easy, but, what would be the point. You wanna fix things? Be part of the solution. Have a good evening Skipper Mel.

I cant recall the Baguley or Guelfi ones, but happy to comment if you show me the incidents, there were some small parts of the second, third and fourth quarters that I missed.

There were two missed HTB calls late in the game, I'm not sure if they would have resulted directly in goals, but they robbed the opportunity from the side that had all the momentum and the better team after quarter time. These were critical moments for me, when the game was at it's most desperate and could be tipped based on one moment and goal.

I thought overall the game that I saw Collingwood had the better run. Other neutrals may have seen differently, but sorry I wont really compare my opinion with a Pies or Bombers fan because there is bias at play for both of them. You'll probably argue otherwise and I get that as a Pies fan.

What did other neutrals think?
Why don’t you have a read of Sterge ’s comments. He’ll have a neutral’s opinion on the umpiring.

Mate, how do you expect him to pick up the ball? He isn’t Inspector Gadget.
You bend down to pick the ball up, not duck your head between your legs when you see a couple of players coming at you and then do a backward reverse twist with a double pike triple somersault. Score = 9.5.

Forget the umpire talk. Both teams finals bound.
this narrative will be lost in the wake of the fans booing.
Essendon stood up to a team steam rolling them and ground out a game. Didn't win, but all week we were told we were in for a proper test of our recent form.
It didn't disappoint. Fitter Smith and Zaka. Raz back in.
After JLT and the first two rounds, my fears allay. Im seeing the team the media fawned over in the preseason.

Keen to see us beat the cats next game.
We've beaten them when we've not been this good.

Watching replays the non calls make me sick. Can’t be good when supporters go home feeling cheated, turns me right off the game. AFL should work on improving standard and clarity of umpiring instead of tweaking the rules. This will have the biggest positive impact
