A & B were forced into it.

C to E agree.

Some were forced yes... but just before Melbourne collapsed and stopped scoring, AND they had some momentum, I saw a number of occasions where they were either going inside 50 or going to half forward, and there seemed to be 2 or 3 Melbourne players bunched together in a particular area, and the ball carrier under minimal pressure ignored the multiple Melbourne players and kicks it 30 metres to the left/right or over the top directly to a Richmond player. I don't know whether these are mis-kicks or if that player honestly did not look ahead and just bombed it anywhere.

It seemed to be that these repeat turn overs were the beginning to the end... they got to a point where they just stopped trying to go forward, and everyone moved back into defensive 50 for the remainder of the game.

Max Gawn talking about getting back some of the Dees “brand and DNA”. God clubs talk some crap, they need to get back the very basics of football and crack in.
The Melbourne brand and DNA is purposely losing, they looked like they had finally figured out how to win but straight back to being shit.

If anything they need to break the Melbourne DNA

Didn’t think it was that bad a game. Tigers were good. Stack is an indictment on recruiters. Looks like Goodwin was just happy to limit the damage as there was no one forward to score.
Stack has talent - can play.
All teams bypassed him in the draft.
Bit of a loose cannon, reportedly has some attitude and adjustment problems apparently. Hardwick took him under his wing but says he’s hard work.
Hopefully he can stay focussed and knuckle down.
Jury still out re long term.
Certainly shows he can play.
Not trying to put the guy down BTW.

Melbourne having a year like us in 2016 imo. More pain to come I think but it won’t l but a huge prediction on their future. Will be back up there next year I think.
I'm not sure about that... Their forward line is in complete disarray. Since they lost Hogan.. Mcdonald can't handle the pressure of being No. 1 up there. They have no other tall forward to take that place. Pruess is not a natural leading forward. The only way I can see them getting back to what they were last year is by getting a developed tall forward some how in a trade or free agency. Seems they shored up defence with Lever and May over the past 2 years, but neglected to do anything about their forward line, and weakened it substantially by releasing Hogan. Who in that forward line could you say can confidently kick 50 goals in a season or even 30 goals?

Stack was kicked out of the AFL and WA football academies. He had serious behavioral issues. Carlton were the only other club showing interest but the Tiges pounced first.

But how long til May and/or Lever are in the team the year could well be over for them by then with or without another forward

Not knowing the specifics of his off-field issues, incredible to believe he didn't get drafted originally?

Absolute back 6 lock already in a side that went 37-13 in it's previous 50 games before he made his debut. Has everything you want in a defender - good skills, good decision making, doesn't take a backwards step, tough, able to read the play.
I think he only played 4 league games so a lot of teams were on a wait and see basis. Richmond picked him up for nothing, the narrative around him is acting like hes a 28 year old mature age who's been hard done by.

Blokes barely 18 and been in the system for about 6 months, amazing colts player though

Evidently he trained so hard in the 2 weeks trial before Xmas that he repeatedly threw up at training, and got straight back and into it. Instant respect from everyone. Watching him play it is not hard to believe.

To further my previous point...

Their leading goal scorer is Jake Melksham on 9 goals for the year. Their full forward Tom McDonald has kicked 2.

Their forward line is absolute trash. And to make matters worse, their mids aren't kicking goals either. For all the ball that Clayton Oliver gets, he has not even scored 1 behind for the season to date.

Oh Melbourne... prelim hangover?
It's like they are a shell of whom they were last year.
Maybe West Coast broke their spirit....

All that momentum and build up as the next big thing... then annihilated in a game they were tipped to go close and possibly even win, and they have never been the same since..............

What's with The Perth teams letting these guys slip in the draft, and end up in VIC sides?

Baker is from WA too. As is Stack. And Tim Kelly??

All these guys could have gone to West Coast or Freo.. if they wanted them.
Why didn't Collingwood pick up Gaff, Shuey, Sloane, Judd (*) etc. Horses for courses, and theres only a finite number of spots for a WA team, can't choose everyone obviously...

Freo and WC as a rule generally target local talent first, there were players in front of both of them for sure. Like I said Stack is barely 18, great potential but it'll be a while before it's fully realised

Not a loose cannon at all. Knock on him was focus and whether he could be committed enough for Afl. Think he’s showing he can.

Been saying it for weeks now. Tigers are a good side - every team has a hiccup or two. But the real genuine sides can cover the loss of big injuries which they have done. No doubt they will be top 4.
I watched this game closely and actually noticed areas where Cotchin would have been quite valuable, had he played they win by an extra 3-5 goals IMO.
I’m really looking forward to when we hit some absolute top sides again.
We’ve covered the injuries well no doubt but we aren’t here to just make finals. We’re here to win the flag and to do that we’re going to have to beat the best sides without Rance. We didn’t do well against Collingwood and GWS but we seem to have found our feet a little against a kind of flaky mid tier side in Port and two pretty disappointing sides in Sydney and Melbourne.

I want to see another big test. At the moment I rate Collingwood, Geelong, WC and GWS at that level and the next time we face one of those is Geelong in R12 which is a loonnnggg way away.

We do face a lot of mid tier teams in the meantime, hopefully a few of those teams really stand up and stamp themselves soon.
