Sydney made the finals a few years ago from 0-6. And some of their football then was as bad as Melbournes now.

I don't think they will make the finals, but this is a strange season.
OK there's always an exception. They need to win 11 possibly 12 out of 16 with 2 games against the pies, eagles and another against the tigers (and you guys) in there - won't happen (I have nothing against Melbourne BTW). If we lose to them next week, we're cooked for the year too just about.

Commentary from Ch7 tonight was a joke. They seemed to have spent the whole time bagging Melbourne even when the game was in the balance for quite a while (8 points in it for what seemed like ages). Bag them later in the various footy shows/media and at least TRY to make the game exciting for your viewers. Commentary doesn't usually bother me one way or the other but tonight it stood out.

Not a loose cannon at all. Knock on him was focus and whether he could be committed enough for Afl. Think he’s showing he can.
Possible ‘lack of focus and commitment ‘ = loose cannon
A weapon but whether or not he can stay in line, on target and committed to the job.

Alright at present, question still remains on whether or not he can keep it up long term (that’s how you judge commitment)
I hope he can.

I just wanna know where Toump Ass is??
Just on the way home from the pub mate. Ripper night, brilliant first quarter. Unfortunatley injuries and umpires cruelled us but still plenty of time to right the ship before the premiership assault!

Congrats to all you sexy Tigers out there. Can't wait to smash you pricks in the replay!

Stack was kicked out of the AFL and WA football academies. He had serious behavioral issues. Carlton were the only other club showing interest but the Tiges pounced first.

I heard Sumich talking about Stack last week and they asked what his issues were. He replied it had nothing to do with attitude or partying or being lazy it was simply lack of professionalism ie, he literally lived hours away from training so was regularly late, Sumich pulled him aside early on in the piece and said, there are no excuses in a professional environment you just have to do something about the problem and he did - was then reinstated back into the squad.

All this talk about massive issues and being a loose cannon are just rubbish. Kids a dynamo and has a great attitude

The good ones
I don't think I have ever heard the Ch7 commentary box fellate any team as enthusiastically as Richmond tonight.

The Tigers are a very good side, but so far this year they've been flogged by the two top 4 calibre teams they've played, and tonight all they did was beat a team which is plainly on struggle street at the moment.

Richmond's aggressive running and frenetic ball movement breaks down weaker teams who can't handle the pressure, but better teams have consistently shown that they can't handle teams with precise ball movement.

If that was all it was (and it got fixed while still a junior), there is no way he would have had 118 picks pass on him.

I’m really looking forward to when we hit some absolute top sides again.
We’ve covered the injuries well no doubt but we aren’t here to just make finals. We’re here to win the flag and to do that we’re going to have to beat the best sides without Rance. We didn’t do well against Collingwood and GWS but we seem to have found our feet a little against a kind of flaky mid tier side in Port and two pretty disappointing sides in Sydney and Melbourne.

I want to see another big test. At the moment I rate Collingwood, Geelong, WC and GWS at that level and the next time we face one of those is Geelong in R12 which is a loonnnggg way away.

We do face a lot of mid tier teams in the meantime, hopefully a few of those teams really stand up and stamp themselves soon.
I still rate Richmond higher than Geelong. They know their system so well. Geelong early form still to be proven

lol get off it - talk about over exaggerating losing a couple of times.
We're building into the season nicely, still got a long way to go but our structures are improving week on week - really looking forward to this clash of styles that is supposedly a sure fire way to beat us later on in the year.

Based on what? gut feel? Im just taking what his coach said at face value. Said he was perplexed as to why he was passed over as it wasnt an issue after he was dropped from the squad and reinstated again preseason. Obviously wasnt bc he made AA. Anyhow stiff shit, its all in the past now, kids a gun and settled in beautifully, very happy we have him.

How did injuries to Astbury and Reiwoldt hurt Melbourne?

Just an application of common sense.

It seems unlikely that 18 teams of recruiters all let a highly rated kid slide that far just because he was late to training a few times.

They were probably as frustrated as everyone else was watching the Demons.

Pity Riewoldt got injured.
I would love to see him get a meaningful suspension as he tries to hang every single player over the most minor discretions on AFL360.
A grade Wan**r
Meaningful suspension? For simply holding a guy's arm. He held it so there was no chance of a legal disposal, didn't apply any extra force to cause injury. There was no comment from the ump and no retaliation from any Dees players. Take your Jack hating goggles off

I think a lot of heat has to come on Clayton Oliver. Everyone craps on about how many touches he gets etc, but he does NOTHING with them. One of the worst decision makers of all time, you wouldn’t ask him to help pick out wallpaper for your kitchen! Miles too slow as well
Yeah he's purely an accumulator. I've never really rated him. Not a dangerous player or a play-maker at all.
