For all their bravado, they have kicked 5 goals. Won't make finals and one of the biggest prelim hangovers in recent memory. Feel sorry for their fans here. Apart for some fleeting moments & decades in the wilderness, to Pulverise their way into the finals last year & win their first final in such a brutal fashion, any football fan would have thought they would improve, better for the experience, will challenge. Horrible follow-up by the MFC.
Summed it up perfectly.

Not sure why Lewis is such a focus on BF. Would have thought the Dees have much bigger problems than him.
Well the question on people's minds in situations like this is how do you go forward? Youth is always the way forward which makes you look at the older players and question what they still have to offer. Lewis isn't half the player he was even just 3 years ago back at the Hawks. He's cooked and not able to take the team forward.

Melbourne aren't any chance of making finals anymore so it's the perfect time to blood some kids and someone like Lewis has to be the first to make way. Continuing to play Lewis for the rest of the year won't get them anywhere.

He's never been a leader like Hodge that can impart something to the younger players. He's a pretty shit bloke and not good for the culture of a club either.

I'd drop him next week and never look back. I can only assume he played on this year because he'd already signed onto a 2-3 year deal initially.

Meaningful suspension? For simply holding a guy's arm. He held it so there was no chance of a legal disposal, didn't apply any extra force to cause injury. There was no comment from the ump and no retaliation from any Dees players. Take your Jack hating goggles off
That’s the beauty of it, minor.
If another player did it and Jack was asked what he thought, he would say
“You got to protect the player”
“There was potential for an injury”
“No need to do it”
“He was pinned, he doesn’t need to keep holding the arm in an uncomfortable position”
“As players we should know better from the Judd saga”
“Give him two weeks”

I’ve heard Jack enough to know what he would come out with.
Hell he wasn’t even totally against the Cox suspension.

So maybe Jack shouldn’t try to get others suspended for minor indiscretions.

You're quite jaded pal. He doesn't hang others from AFL360, that's absolute crap. If he did, he would've tried to get Dangerflog a week or two for his hit on De Boer.
Anyway Jack will be out injured for a while so you get your wish ya turnip

Yeah, but that's the thing...We don't see you as the benchmark of being a good team. Win or lose, it's just another game.

Your entire claim to being a quality side is based on beating us however.
Hardly. I've posted in other threads that I'm not sold on Collingwood as being premiership faves given we haven't really beaten anyone yet, only potential bottom 6 or 8 teams.

Today is a good test, Bombers going well at the moment.

Cats and Eagles are definitely the twk premiership faves at the moment.

If that was all it was (and it got fixed while still a junior), there is no way he would have had 118 picks pass on him.
I hate to suggest this, but the thing that comes to mind is a subtle from of racism - it wasn't that long ago that a Crows recruiter was sacked for arguing that it wasn't worth the trouble recruiting indigenous kids. I wonder if recruiters are gun-shy when ever there's any suggestion of trouble with an indigenous recruit, even if it's relatively innocuous. If that is what it is, it's credit to Richmond's embrace of indigenous culture that we took the risk and have a culture and infrastructure to make it work.

I doubt this was the case with Viney killer Stack but it is an interesting point. Good on Stack for making the most of his opportunity, seems like a quality kid from videos etc. and really hope he keeps it up

How long before everyone realises crowd is below expected and Richmond fans start claiming they all showed up but it was oppo fans who stayed home??
What would a Richmond game day thread be without whinging, triggered Collingwood supporters.

Still can't believe our season is done, our club is soft and misguided. Credit to Richmond, to bring on 5? new players and have a system all players understand and works is a credit.

Im following Brisbane for the rest of the year, cant take anymore of this shit.

I think this game was done when you went in with 5 changes, and a different structure. Very possibly a case of having to take a step back to go forward though.

I dint think the seasons done but top 4 is looking very hard to achieve.

I've been saying all year this year would be tough for the Demons. When you stick your nose up for the first time in a generation, there's a lot of pressure on the following season. The expectation is completely new.

I still recall the vibe from our players at the 2016 club awards, it was all "we'll get it next year". That's natural but not automatically going to happen.

A bit like us in 2017 your injury list hasn't looked good from the pre-season either. I think a young talented list with a lot if players working hard to develop their bodies is susceptible to wearing injuries, groin soreness and hip problems for example.

I think this is a hiccup on the way up, although you probably won't meet expectations this year. It's still an excellent list and the players will naturally harden up with experience.

Commentary from Ch7 tonight was a joke. They seemed to have spent the whole time bagging Melbourne even when the game was in the balance for quite a while (8 points in it for what seemed like ages). Bag them later in the various footy shows/media and at least TRY to make the game exciting for your viewers. Commentary doesn't usually bother me one way or the other but tonight it stood out.
So, they were proved correct that Melbourne looked terrible and the scoreline was flattering them, when the margin ultimately blew out? What's the problem with that?

I'd much prefer that than the usual commentator's technique, which goes something like this:
  • Team A kicks a goal to go up by 20+ with 10 minutes left - "Goal! Game over!!"
  • Team B replies with a goal two minutes later - "Goal! Game back on!!"
  • Team A kicks another goal - "To seal the win! Yes!!"
  • Team B kicks two more goals in quick succession - "Signs of life! What a game!"
  • Rinse and repeat until there's about 20 seconds left.
They're there to provide analysis beyond what the scoreboard is telling us. If Melbourne had won, it would be a valid criticism. Honestly, of all the things to get worked up at the commentators about, you think they shouldn't get stuck into a team that looked as awful as Melbourne did last night?

Yep but that’s just what I’m saying- why go on about Lewis- he is an easy fix- he will finish up.
It’s what to do about their plodding midfield, their dysfunctional forward line, their undermanned backline and so forth that needs the attention- a more difficult fix. To work out what has happened since the final against WC. What has turned a very good team into quite a mess. That’s where I would be focussing my energy. It’s fallen away so quickly, perhaps it can be righted quickly?

Stack has talent - can play.
All teams bypassed him in the draft.
Bit of a loose cannon, reportedly has some attitude and adjustment problems apparently. Hardwick took him under his wing but says he’s hard work.
Hopefully he can stay focussed and knuckle down.
Jury still out re long term.
Certainly shows he can play.
Not trying to put the guy down BTW.
Correct. It's well known talent was not the reason Stack went undrafted. Every recruiter knew he could play, but there were off field concerns. His background was rough, had some personal challenges, needed to get away from WA which wasn't a good environment for him. Things like his diet and preparation and professionalism were also questioned too. He was a flight risk.

Tigers took a punt and over the summer by all reports he worked incredibly hard and took his opportunity. If he stays on the right path it will be an absolute steal getting a gun player for nothing. We took a chance, they dont always pay off but this one just might.

When did hardwick say anything like that?
All he's ever said about stack was how hard he has worked and how he's done everything right since he came over.
