Worst game of the season. Literally just bombed in by both sides into their forward 50, while every single player floods back and prevents any scoring. 14 intercept marks a piece for both sides...ridiculous amount. Awful football, capped off by atrocious goal kicking. Riccardi, Greene, Weitering and Walsh the only thing worth watching tonight

Agree with some of that and whilst it's easy to criticize the match as a poor spectacle (as I have done) it's becoming apparent a lot of players in recent games look not only physically spent but more importantly mentally fatigued...
How else do you explain the repeat inexplicable errors by both teams tonight, often under no pressure, resulting in soft turnovers which then simply saw the ball rebounding between defensive zones. The Tigers v Freo match had similar traits as did the Saints v Dees up in NT last week....

So effectively Carlton have kicked 1 goal in a game of football (both second halves of tonight’s and last week’s game). That’s telling. What’s up with Carlton and the second half?

GWS 7 points down, Brayshaw "the Giants will feel like they're right in it"

Aren't we in a recession? How does he have a job commentating

he did qualify it by saying, it was because it was a low scoring game. If it was a high scoring game, there is no way GWS could have got back into the contest. :)

We cannot run out a game and our opposition know it. GWS came out in the 4th and ran over the top of us. We went and got Andrew Russell, a supposed Guru of fitness. Useless!

Yes you can. If the player is kicking at goal that by default he has taken 30 seconds for because he is confident of scoring, then they should be penalised.
Poor suggestion that wouldn't work in practice. Free kicks arent awarded for not making the distance on kicks or miskicks. Why shouldn't they be able to pass late if a player is wide open? Are you going to do that for every set shot that doesn't score?

Another game decided by a player who froze in the 'big moment'. Martin should have gritted his teeth and drilled that goal, wasn't that difficult. Every close game this season has been decided by players inability to handle the 'big moment'.
That's basically every close game ever? Of course it's decided by the execution in the key moments.

Miskicks going out on the full are penalised with a free kick.

I would do it for every shot that doesn't score where the player decides to take up the 30 seconds. Easy to put into practice, no grey areas, you either score or don't.

If they play it within the normal time (the 6-8 seconds) as if it was anywhere else on the ground, then no penalty.

So what about Ben Browns routine that usually takes that long anyway? Does he get penalised for not making the distance now? What incentive is that for him to take long or risky shots?

And so now the defensive team can abandon needing to man up on opposition once a player indicates they are taking a shot and will likely use their 30 seconds? They can just flood the goalline to try and block it and we have a bunch of other players standing around in a huddle unmarked or setting up defensively already?

What about if a player indicates they want the time, and only use 28 seconds? Is that a free kick if they don't make the distance or that's okay?

What if they full intend to take a shot, take 30 seconds, but the ball goes to the goalline and gets marked by a teammate? Is that a mark or a free kick against for not scoring?

What about a completely fair shank that lands in bounds or gets marked by a teammate? It's now fine to shank any normal kick but you get penalised for shanking a kick if you took longer to shank it?

Yeh you are right, all those grey areas and stupid changes in practice are worth it just to stop the odd occasion where a player takes 30 seconds and then passes to a teammate as within the rules in any other situation..... How about leave the game alone and don't make needless changes that create a dozen more problems than they solve?

If you watch enough footy you would know the execution is well below par. I've lost count count how many times a commentator has said "this is a big moment" only to be let down by the enevitable missed goal.

Yes, free kick to the opposition in all cases above. Dont know where the grey areas lie within your scenarios. Its simple, you're the one complicating it.
