I think the restrictions placed on the cats might help cats post bye blues... Nothing else has! Underdone players coming in risky though. One side will be off the pace with the contenders come 10pm.

Interesting data Ron, so most of these instances look to be related to the World Wars - then there is a cluster recently which I suspect is due to the advances in sport science, the reduction in on field violence, and higher pay. I reckon Geelong are gambling that players can play longer than thought and still be effective ie mid 30s.

Yeah they're pushing the envelope, a little like North in 2016 who fell into the finals 12-10 after starting 9-0. But Geelong showed in 2011 that they can manage an older team effectively. Not too different from last year, really; just a little older.

Are Geelong really that bad after a bye? What's the W/L record for the past 5 years for example?
I think the only time they've won a game after a bye since 2011 was last year during the Footy Fiesta™ when the total time between the games, including the bye, was a week. 😂
